I participated in a couple of sig campaigns in the old forum. I thought of it as something that makes me a little money for something I do anyways.
I am not a spammer, but truth is, I wrote some posts, I might not have send, w/o sig campaign, because I realized , that they don't really contribute to the discussion. So, even though, you don't intend to, participating in a sig campaign changes your behavior. It surely leads to more low-quality posts. Limits, don't change much about that, since you can easily bypass them by creating more accounts. Damn, multi-accounts are even better, since you can just fake discussion with your self. (I once thought about a bot, that just steals discussions from other forums. I am too lazy to really create something like that, but I think, the basic principle is solid)
On the other hand, what are the benefits of sig campaigns? Yay, more ads. Since we don't have enough of them on the internet already. If you want to advertise your site, I guess there is a subforum for that.

No affiliate links is my vote. Keeps the trolling and spam to a minimum, and I find myself spending more time over here just to get away from the kids trying to sell to each other at bitcointalk. GetHashing does not allow signatures at all. I only put a link to my magazine in my signature and would not mind if that was taken away. This is turning out to be a quality forum with what looks like steady growth.

Text only signatures for free and charge more than spammers will pay for graphics of any kind? The main issue for me with the signature campaigns are how ugly they make the forum look. You're going to get spam no matter what. There are always jobs offered on websites like guru.com or some of the bitcoin job marketplaces for people to post fud and "stealth" advertisements on bitcointalk.

I have already seen some members have gambling links in their signatures and i got a good feeling they are not doing it for free, i think we already have some campaigns going on here on the sly.

I would only want a maxium of maybe 5 different campaigns running and it will be policed very strictly.
I also left other forums due to all the ads.

At the end of the day we have to listen to our members and going by the polls the majority want them.

We are thinking of a way now to run campaigns that will benifit all members not just campaign managers and sig spammers.

Thanks,

This is a tricky topic. The main thing I didn't like about the signature campaigns is users were rated based on post, and added crud between posts, with the designs. I think if you want to put a ref link or something in your signature, with a site that already has referral bonuses, that's pretty mundane and a potential middle ground. Me personally I don't need/plan to use this. One option is to create some great posts with content, talking about companies, and products and actually giving some original thought. Then you can probably use links as you like and get engagement.

In general if you use a site and refer people, I would just contact them and see if they have a program.

Site plug: if you're interested in advertising for your business or otherwise, which helps us keep the lights on, you can reach out.
We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty there that needs to be done.

ugly and it looks messy. As i said previously, if we add this, we should be careful with malicious campaigns and should keep the clean design of this website.

First, just joined this forum, thanks for having me!

Second, I've been a member of Bitcointalk.org for a few years and have participated in signature campaigns. I just want to thank you for at least making this topic one for discussion and consideration.

I am a fan of signature campaigns. They brought me into bitcoin and I'm thankful for that.

I also agree that a lot of it has gotten out of hand on Bitcointalk. Part of the problem is that Campaign Managers don't police their participants to make sure that the privilege isn't being abused. I've had challenges there because I am open and honest with people and sometimes Admins or Mods don't appreciate my opinion. However I see other members of similar or the same campaigns posting hundreds of post a week and getting paid plenty for it and never getting hassled.

If signature campaigns were to be successful there could be:
  • Rules that limit the volume of posts that will be paid - cap the max, which limits the earning potential and makes the campaigns less valuable
  • Campaign Managers NEED to be held accountable for the performance of members in their campaign
Signature campaigns help the bitcoin economy, and isn't that what we all want? Thanks for allowing me to comment!

Yeah if signatures are moderated to not ruin the design of the website I don't think it would be an issue at all

If there really is a big call from members to add signature campaigns is there a way that the forum can moderate the campaigns?

1) All campaigns must have full funds for the duration of the campaign held with a proven escrow provider.
2) All campaign managers must be strict on spam post by their members.
3) No minimum post requirement, that way people don't post crap just to get up to the the payout limit.
4) We don't want any scams here so any campaign accepted must be from proven BTC companies like LuckyBit & Primedice for example.

Regards: bitkilo.
2 and 3 are most important. No minimum post is essential. It would give me no hurry just to post to meet the minimum requirement.

The forum software already measures up- and down votes. This metric is available per post and per user.

So, my solution would be simple.
Any post that has a negative score will not display a signature to anyone.
Any user that has a score below a certain threshold as user score / number of posts < threshhold will have all signatures disabled by default.

Implementing this should not be more than a few lines of code, and discourages spam (one down vote is all it takes to invalidate the signature per post, and if the quality of the posts is too low then signatures for all the users other posts are disabled too).

This idea could be extended to links in a message - no hyperlinks (just the url is displayed) in the same conditions.

If this can be done i think this is a great idea.

I started the talk of signature campaigns early so we could get everything ready before introducing them.
I would like to see 5k members before we start with the campaigns and we also need the rank system ready and working before starting with sig campaigns.

thank you for this very frank posting and please think about it that this user is not a spammer. but most of the other signature poster are forced to post xxx amount of postings. they have no choice but to spam.

we had in our thread on BCT a Moderator who deleted in our thread postings with the reason that they are off topic. and this Moderator posted in our thread the reason why he deleted the so called off topic posting and he had a very big signature of another casino
we would understand if he had a signature for pampers etc but to post in our casino thread with a signature of another casino? sorry but a Mod should not be allowed to participate in a signature campaign.

we are against signature campaigns. but there are many good proposals here to implement strong rules to get rid of spam postings.

someone mentioned a sub forum for paid ads that would be a good idea. each owner of a casino or other business could advertise his business and offer his promos

I fully agree with this posting made by BNM

No moderators are to participate in signature campaigns, yes I think that is a good rule.
Since I have looked at it from your point of view I could see why it could be a concern, although it could be policed easily.

I'm not one for signature campaigns and voted no but I will do what the members vote for and so far that is looking like they will become a part of this forum one day.
I will keep working on it until the vote swings.

Be good to hear some of the other moderators views on this one.

I agree that it could be policed easily but on BCT no one is taking care as it looks like. my partner had some PMs with this Mod and it is a shame how he behaved in those PMs.

I voted also against because we have our reasons and there will be others who will vote for it with their reasons

I can tell out of experience that we had one case where a signature spammer posted some stupid postings in our casino thread and he had a signature of 2 different casinos. he even used bad wordings and we have send the screenshot to those casinos and signature managers. he lost one signature only :(

I really hope you will find a fair solution

Re: Signature Campaigns

I've been on many forums and saw how they deal with spam, w/ or w/o signatures. On one, signatures are only allowed for certain post counts, like links become clickable if you have > 300 post. On another, they require a yearly fee to activate clickable signatures, and promotes users to a certain VIP status w/in the forum (w/c also unlocks a sub-forum for users of this rank). Another one I've seen does not allow links in signatures at all. These 3 are on the same niche, and currently, the only one who went active and alive is the 2nd one, in which they allowed sigg but clickable sigs need to be paid for. The other two died b/c of lack of activity.

What I'm saying is that signatures aren't bad, we just need to be creative enough to get all parties happy that would result in the least spam.
Yes I like what you said, this forum is the cleanest forum I've ever seen I should go what majority wins.

Maybe bitcoin.com should run a couple of signature campaigns at bitcointalk.org, not for this forum but for the other services like casino.bitcoin.com and the bitcoin.com news sites to get a bit more interaction between the two forums.
Once some members start playing at the casino or check the news page they are more likely to sign up at the forum too.

A fixed weekly campaign would be good for only sr.meber and above with Lutpin as campaign manager because he is very thorough and does not allow shit posters that only give the company being advertised a bad name.

I'm trying to think of another way that members can earn small micro payment for each post or by a weekly post count, not easy to think of a way that won't ruin the forum with spam posts.

I was thinking we could have signature advertising on specific boards only so members could earn a little btc by posting on those boards while still giving people a place to discuss bitcoin on the rest of the forum without the advertising and spam posts.
Maybe boards such as gambling, marketplace, lending, ect. could have signatures being displayed since that is what most of the advertising is about anyway and the rest of the forum where bitcoin is being discussed could remain add free.

Anybody like this idea?

I like it. I'm favorable to signatures (probably a bit obvious I suppose  ), but I think certain sections could do well of being a "sanctuary" of sorts, where signatures would be absent. These would be the exception though, in my view.

Importantly, people that really dislike signatures in general, can simply disable them in the display options.

Hi Myagui,

Thanks for your opinion and welcome to the team, sorry i have not noticed you yet.

I've been lurking this forum for a while and decided to sign up. However, there are still no updates about the signature campaign proposal? It would be a very good way to lure people in the forums.
You are right it would be a good way to lure a little more traffic here but we don't want to go down that road if its going to lower the post quality, we need to find a middle ground first.

I am working on it and have put a proposal of sorts forward, just hang in there.

That has fucked this forum then.

The farmed accounts are moving in. BS meaningless posts, minimum effort, maximum reward.
I know there were not many users here, but soon there will be no real members here, just as on bitcointalk.

There was an opportunity to do things differently here. Reward real posters, not trash spam posters.
Oh well.

Roger Ver, I'm now ashamed of your lack of vision.
