Forum Ranks [Update]

Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:37 am

Hello loyal members,

We need some ideas for forum rank names, we already have a few that we are thinking about but I would also like to get the members view on what ranks they would like to see.

Some of the names i like so far have been suggested by litecoinguy:
New member rank:
Genesis
Dust

Next rank level:
Bitcoin Enthusiast
Bitcoin Mastermind

Long term members:
Son of Satoshi
Satoshis follower

If everyone could add a few ranks they would like to see next to their username we can start a list, once we have a list of 10 of the best names I will create a poll for the final decision .

In addition to the forum ranks would any of our members also like to see coins or maybe BTC symbols added under their username as they progress through the ranks?

Start posting some of the best rank names now that you would like to see and then keep an eye on this thread for the voting poll.

Edit: Forum ranks have been implemented, please check page 3 for details..

Sticking with bitcoin terms sounds like the logical way to go but i also like precious metals names like,

*Gold Member
*Platinum Member
*Titanium Member

Even ones like:
*Diamond member
*Emerald member
*Ruby member

With rank names like these we could also change a users profile colour to match the rank they have reached.

Edit: If we used names like "Diamond Member" we could have a few diamonds instead of coins under a users name.
If they are a Ruby Member then red rubies under their username would look good, and so on.

Couple of suggestions, i have never liked Newbie as a rank name because a newbies post often don't seem to be taken very seriously, new recruit sounds better to me.
Veteran is good for mid to high rank.
Specialist and expert should be reserved for members who really know what they are talking about when it comes to bitcoin.

Yeah, all these can be mixed and matched to best fit the rankings. Also, are the rankings going to be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or will there be more than 3?

I would like to see about 5 different ranks, we don't want members to have to wait ages to upgrade ranks because a lot of members inspire to reach a new rank and will become more active just to further their chances of ranking up.

Would it be wrong to include new member ranks like:
" Bitcointalk escapee"
" Sick of censorship"

Hmm what about rank names and colors? I would suggest the WoW/HS colors where white is newbies, green is member, blue is next rank, then purple and then orange for legendary a.k.a the BTC color. :)

Yeah I think 5 makes more sense. Maybe I need to redo my lists

I think once users get to "X" level, there should be a custom option. Here you can set your own name! Kind of like custom flairs on reddit. Maybe this could even be a paid "upgrade" feature for users if they were so inclined to make some sort of micropayment or something to enable it?

Yes, Colors/badges/trophies are a must as most members love to see they have reached a new "level/rank"

I don't like the idea of any type of paid forum ranks apart from maybe an extra special tag for member who donate some BTC to keep the forum running.

Yeah that's what I mean, just a custom tag. So not another rank, just the ability to change the ranking label (name). :)

Yep thats ok, i would still like to see a donator keep his/her rank and then just have a donator tag added so everybody know that this member is helping keep the forum running.
Your always brainstorming new ideas and its great to see. You put a lot of effort into this job as moderator you have been given and Im happy your part of the team.
Keep the ideas coming!

* Veteran
I like these ranks.

But not veteran. It has a war association for me: someone who went to another country to kill a bunch of innocent people with their superior weapons for a conflict they have no real exposure to, only to be welcomed back to peace as heroes and not as murderers, while leaving the place they visited in a worse mess than before they came.

There is no compliment in being a veteran for me.

Just so you know, I didn't write it in the context of military ranks or war. Veteran is just another word for a person with a lot of experience. :)

That's ok we can just add Bitcoin in front of Veteran.

*Bitcoin Veteran sounds better anyway than just veteran.

Re: Forum Ranks

I like the idea of having colors associated with the rank levels, like belt colors in martial arts.

I think there should be recognition of anyone that donates, not just donations of high quantities (i.e., 10 BTC or 50 BTC). However big donors should certainly get additional recognition as such.

Here is my idea for rank levels:
  • -Faucet Hound
  • -Junior Bitcoiner
  • -Senior Bitcoiner
  • -Master Bitcoiner
  • -Satoshi Kinfolk
Unlike a few others, i don't think people should be able to rank up quickly...let time and involvement and reputation drive the achievements. These levels will be greater accomplishments if they are harder to earn.

Thanks.

I like them all except Son of Satoshi. I don't want to be Satoshi's son, I don't even know who he is. He can't be that good of a father just disappearing like that. Maybe "Bitcoin Die Hard" I don't really have a good suggestion there.

I suggest "Bitcoin Jesus" for the last level.
We can use that as a rank as the title is alreay taken by our founder of this forum Roger Ver.

I did suggest to him once that he should change the current AMA Participant tag he has to bitcoin Jesus but I don't know if he even like that title or who first gave it to him.

Your welcome, that's what this forum is all about, letting the users have there say and let everyone be an active part of building this great new community forum. I am open to any new suggestions from all our members.

Now i like your idea about using the san at the end of satoshi as a sign of respect but not many members outside of Japan would know this.
We could also call the final rank El Doctor Satoshi because doctor is used in a lot of south American countries as a sign of respect even know most english speaking people would think he is a real doctor.

Son of Satoshi is good but i have raised the question with LCG before about what if the user is female, for this reason alone i dont think we should use it.

I really like the idea of incorperating the reputation points into a special rank in addition to the normal rank a member will receive. My only concern is that it may lead to sock puppert accounts used just to rank up other account but people will always try that stuff regardless.

Having dedications to people like Hal would be great but i think haven't heard any really good ones yet.

Someone did mention after his passing that a domination of bitcoin should be called a finney just like we have satoshis but thats for another topic.

Edit: should we also give post number 420 a stoner reference?

Re: Forum Ranks

Different member ranks not based on bitcoin terms:

New Member - Bronze + 1 colored BTC symbol
Next level, between, 50-100 posts - Silver + 2 BTC symbols
Next level, between, 101-500 posts - Gold + 3 BTC symbols
Next level, between, 501-1000 posts - Platinum + 4 BTC symbols
Finale level, between, 1001-3000 posts - Diamond + 5 BTC symbols
(The BTC symbol would change color as per the rank)

Member ranks based on bitcoin terms:

New Member - Genesis Member
Next level - Junior Bitcoiner
Next level - Bitcoin Enthusiast
Next level - Bitcoin Veteran
Last level - Son of Satoshi or Bitcoin Die Hard

Anybody like these?
i would make some changes.

"New Member - Bronze + 1 colored BTC symbol"

no BTC symbol. it should be something special.

"Finale level, between, 1001-3000 posts - Diamond + 5 BTC symbols"

1000 posts are nothing and you already reached the end rank :? ? quite low if you ask me! raise it to 10.000-15.000 posts. endranks should be reached after YEARS. the vaule comes from the time you spend with that account.

- all numbers should be alot higher.
- not enough different ranks. add 30-40 stages

(Finney is a nice rank too :) + maybe we make a vote about the endrank? )
