Re: [2017-05-29] Ukraine To Collect Personal Income Tax On Cryptocurrency

Eventually, most countries will have laws like this and will treat Bitcoin the same as fiat currency. It is taking a little time for the laws to catch up with technology.

Re: New to bitcoin - should I buy now?

The Bitcoin price swings 200 in either direction multiple times per day lately. If you can buy close to $2000, that is your best bet. Bitcoin is a long term game so don't be upset if it goes down from your original purchase price as it will go back up in the coming weeks and months.

What happens if I loose my Bitcoins? Is there a way to retrieve them?

You can retrieve them only if you have a backup of your wallet or have a recovery seed.

Re: Bitcoin Client

A client is essentially the software which communicates with the Bitcoin network that allows you to send and receive coins.

As others have suggested, for a newcomer, "thin" clients like electrum are best to start with.

There are services such as coinbase that do this. There are also people on localbitcoins that do this.

It is not difficult at all. For beginners I suggest using the electrum wallet. For more advanced or technical folk I suggest running a full node.

Re: Bitcoin Network Under Pressure: BTCManager’s Week in Review May 22

I think everyone involved can agree that network congestion is beyond ridiculous at this point. I paid a 270 sat/byte fee yesterday and it took over 10 blocks to confirm. Unfortunately we are at the point where something needs to be done but the current stalemate in the war on solutions is impeding ...

I highly disagree. Sometime the most logical solution fits best. It was a source of theft with Bitcoin as a mode of fund transfer.

Did you ever transfer your coins out of the exchange you bought them at? More than likely they are long gone if you did not as almost no exchanges from that long ago still exist.

I wish people would take the time to understand something before casting blame. It's a once a day occurrence where someone thinks Bitcoin.com controls the Bitcoin network, but all it would take was reading one somewhat technical article to realize this is not true.

Consensus. If the nodes on the Bitcoin network detect a transaction, but the address has no blockchain history(ie, empty), then the transaction will simply be rejected by the network.

I'm most shocked at ETH. I thought it was just a bubble at the $10 price point and am amazed that it was able to get to that level.

It just proves that for a new currency to be sustainable, it must bring new features and functions to the table.

Re: The Disney Ransom Saga: Is Bitcoin Really The Cause?

Blaming Bitcoin for this is the equivalent of blaming cash for a bank robbery.

Just as the case with the wannacry attacks, just because Bitcoin is being used, does not mean it wouldn't happen without Bitcoin.

Many ransomware in the past has required prepaid gift cards.

Re: John McAfee: Mixing smartphones and Bitcoin will leave cryptocurrency in 'absolute chaos'

First off, if you have hundreds of thousands of dollars on your phone wallet, that's on you if they get stolen. It goes against best practices that just about every expert recommends. Use a hardened wallet like armory, or get a hardware wallet like Trezor to keep your coins safe. Utilize paper stora...

If they are such good traders, why would they need to borrow your money to trade with?

It's not amazing to me that these exploits exist, what amazes me is that they were kept secret for so long without being discovered by other sources.

This is scary stuff, especially considering no tool currently exists to decrypt files encrypted with this worm yet.

Create another transaction using the change from that Tx. Include an abnormally high fee and both Tx should get confirmed.

What bothers me most is the talk of attacking the minority chain. What is the point? The strongest, most viable chain will inevitably win anyway so I see little point other than to escalate conflict.

I think he meant Jihan Wu. Jihan told Charlie that SegWit is "good technology". Source: https://twitter.com/CharlieSh...
