The biggest problem is the fear of what could happen in the event of a fork. Having 2 semi supported chains could be disastrous for Bitcoin. You would essentially have 2 currencies for a while until one failed.

This will be a great play where we can see segwit in a production environment and users will be able to weigh the consequences vs benefits. Hopefully it can turn the tide of the debate in either direction.

This is bad news, if many banks start doing this, purchases of Bitcoin could significantly decrease as many users would be affraid to send wire transfers to exchanges.
