Re: PART 2 | Massive On-Chain Scaling for Bitcoin

I'm very impressed by these results, and equally impressed with the high quality of the measurements & research approach. They did an outstanding job on both. Smooth histograms for block propagation times (single hop, log scale) over the normal P2P network for Xthin (top) and standard blocks (bottom...

Re: Massive On-Chain Scaling for Bitcoin

Why does this need to be an either-or solution? This is not an attack on a relay network at all - I have a feeling that's how you are reacting? There is nothing wrong with making bitcoin itself more efficient - and keeping it decentralized (YES, this is important when it is part of the bitcoin node ...

Re: Massive On-Chain Scaling for Bitcoin

You are correct Sir. Xthin Blocks is a substandard solution to the relay network and compact blocks https://github.com/TheBlueMatt/bips/blob/152/bip-0152.mediawiki The relay network is indeed faster than Xtreme Thin blocks. It is, however, a centralized solution. It requires trust. Transactions and...

Re: Massive On-Chain Scaling for Bitcoin

thin blocks are great and we will add that. but it is not enough. For clarity: the main issue driving efforts to contain block size is because of the block propagation issues, or "block switching latency cost", between miners. Unfortunately this is not something that is improved using Xthin Blocks....

Re: Full blocks itself is a software hard fork event

I agree that changing the calculation method for fees is driving up the fee, but that's a client-side feature in my view, not a change to the rules of the blockchain. The actual consensus rule there is how miners calculate the expected/minimum fee - which I believe is still based on the size of the...

Re: Full blocks itself is a software hard fork event

If you believe this is true, where was the fork? I think the system is failing to scale, not that it's been forked to do so. The new clients have updated their fee logic. This is a natural reaction to 'failing to scale' and the new economic reality. It means their transactions get pushed to the top...

Re: Full blocks itself is a software hard fork event

An important clarification: It is a rather intense change in economics. It is not a fork though. I'm not talking about a fork of the blockchain, obviously this won't create two competing chains. I should have been clearer on this. I'm talking about a fork of the software. Old clients have the old ec...

Full blocks itself is a software hard fork event

Today, I got another question about why transactions were not confirming on the blockchain. A friend sent a few bitcoins to an exchange (using an older version of bitcoin-qt from Core), but did not include a fee. This transaction did not confirm, so he thought: "I'll just send another transaction, a...

Re: Time-locking money from myself

Wow, I did not realize it was implemented. Do all miners (the supermajority at least) recognize this opcode on the bitcoin main chain? I will research this a bit more and play around with it on the testnet (and with small amounts on the main network) later. This is great news. Thanks for sharing the...

Re: Time-locking money from myself

To do this, you could do the following. Create an address that will contain the future spendable coins (address A). Save the private key in a secure place. Make backups. Create a temporary address (address B), make sure to save the private key. Send some money to this temporary address B. Create a t...

Refusing to Decrypt Hard Drives May Equal Indefinite Jail Time

I just read this article on news.bitcoin.com : https://news.bitcoin.com/refusing-decrypt-hard-drives-jail/ This idiotic idea is wide open to all sorts of abuse. Re: would you buy a marked quantum scifi bitcoin for above par?

I don’t agree that bitcoin derives any value at all because of the amount of electricity spent on mining it. It is because bitcoins are already useful that people are willing to use electricity to mine them. Bitcoin's value is derived solely from its utility, not from the amount of work that was re...

It appears he has stolen bitcoin from Gavin, Jon and the BBC... They each sent money to the coin creation address of block 9, with Craig's apparent promise that he would sent the coins back. Now it appears that he will not do so. There is a word for that: theft. Here is block #9 https://blockchain.i...

Re: People are really doubting Wright's claims about being Satoshi

Here's some more evidence to suggest that Craig Wright is NOT Satoshi. http://www.coindesk.com/craig-wright-wont-provide-satoshi-nakamoto-proof/ Sure, he still COULD be. The fact that he does not claim that he is Satoshi, does not mean that he is not Satoshi. But to me, his fraudulent proofs with fi...

The transaction has been confirmed in block 410277. So you managed to send a tx with 0 fee, enjoy! If you are not in a hurry, and don't mind if a transaction gets confirmed today, tomorrow, next week or never - you can use a 0 fee. You could resend the transaction with a proper fee if your urgency c...

Re: People are really doubting Wright's claims about being Satoshi

You could be right about there possibly being a legal reason for this round-about approach. I guess it really does not matter though - whether he is or isn't Satoshi has (and should have) no effect on bitcoin. Everyone is free to believe, be agnostic, or be a Satoshi atheist. No harm is done to anyo...

Re: People are really doubting Wright's claims about being Satoshi

These seem very relevant. Gavin says he saw him sign with the keys from Block #1 with his very own eyes. Thanks. Yes, his eyewitness account certainly has value, it most certainly is relevant. Still I maintain that we should not have to trust anyone, including Gavin. If Wright wants to prove he is ...

Re: People are really doubting Wright's claims about being Satoshi

I do wish he would provide more proof if he has it. I don't think he was anticipating so much backlash from the community. If he is Satoshi, I'd be stunned if he did not anticipate backlash. Satoshi invented a system where trust is not needed. Everything is proven cryptographically. This attracts p...

It's not him. There is no reason to resort to faith when you can provide proof. There is no proof, so we are left with believing eye witness testimony. There is absolutely no need for that. Just post a signed message and be done with it. If someone is unable or unwilling to do this - they have other...

Re: Video: BBC - Creator of Bitcoin digital cash reveals identity

Wright is not Satoshi. If Wright is Satoshi, he has an easy way to prove it beyond reasonable doubt. He could sign a message with the genesis block, and make that available. That takes 1 minute to do, and it would get validated by cryptographic experts (after it got enough attention in the community...
