Re: How much data does the blockchain take up on your computer?

I just installed Bitcoin XT 0.11.0.D from the github master branch on my local node. I have really limited bitcoind using the RFC functionality at 10 kB/s for both upstream and downstream: The RFC has two new functions == Network == addnode "node" "add|remove|onetry" getaddednodeinfo dns ( "node" ) ...

Re: I'm Connie Gallippi Founder of BitGive, Ask Me Anything!

I wanted to start of with a quick thank you. I appreciate how you dedicate your time to changing the life of others for the good, and I appreciate how you have helped to show how bitcoin can be used for positive things (when you started BitGive, most news seemed to be about the dark net). I have a q...

Re: How is the Bitcoin system vulnerable?

Your English is just fine! The overall security of the bitcoin system is created in the mining process. If an attacker is able to gain the vast majority of the hashing power in a sustained manner, then he is able to stop payments from being processed, and he may be able to "undo" payments that have ...

Re: 60 bitcoins at $570/btc cost average --- will I make it?

Did you buy at $570 approx 2 years ago? It has not been this high since then, although it did cross the $500 range recently. I think bitcoins will either be worth many times their current value in the future... or nothing at all. It is a speculative investment and I wouldn't put any more money into ...

Regarding collision from poor RNG, this is why I use my own brain wallet :geek: I know you get this, but because there are more people reading this thread I wanted to clarify for those readers: In general, a brain wallet is a sequence of words that you can remember in your brain. This sequence of w...

Re: Bitcoin.com hosting the largest Bitcoin AMA event ever!

Hi

Is it possible to indicate if an AMA is still ongoing? For example, by appending the title with '[ENDED]' if it is not? This makes it clearer if questions can still be added to an AMA that has not seen much activity over the last hour(s).

Thanks!

Re: I'm David Johnston. Managing Director of the Decentralized Applications Venture Fund. Ask Me Anything.

Thanks for your previous response. I agree that most people would want and need to be insulated from the exchange rate fluctuations between bitcoin and their native fiat currency. I am convinced that, for the foreseeable future, no goods or services will be priced in bitcoin as their main currency a...

Re: I'm David Johnston. Managing Director of the Decentralized Applications Venture Fund. Ask Me Anything.

Hello David,

Thanks for being part of this huge AMA event!

I'd be interested to know what you see as the biggest challenge that bitcoin faces today (that is not solved yet), and if you expect decentralized apps to be able to help bitcoin overcome this challenge.

Thanks!

Don't forget to plan for fire, hardware error or theft of the PC etc. Does the airgapped pc log anything that a physical thief could use to break your security? Always have an offline and offsite copy of the words, salt, password. Don't trust only your brain. Always remember to plan for the event an...

TOR bitcoin "exit" node

Hi all, I'm playing with the idea of setting up a tor "exit node" only for port 8333, and redirecting ANY_IP:8333 to a locally hosted bitcoind. So providing access to bitcoin for all TOR users, but not providing any real exit node functionality. It's basically a man in the middle attack, but with th...

Hi Mike Thanks for doing this AMA, and more importantly thank you for all your work to improve bitcoin. I wanted to ask your perspective on Bitcoin-NG. What I understand, it has found a solution through mining to decide who gets to decide the next block contents whereas bitcoin currently allows mine...

Hi Marshall. Thanks for doing this AMA. I'm not sure if it is still ongoing, but I'll try to get my question in anyway! You said (I'm paraphrasing) that you would like to minimize your exposure to risk, and thus not upgrade if you don't absolutely have to. I can understand that. How does that relate...

Hi 24/7 exchange. Will you be opening your exchange to residents of Belize any time soon? I believe I read somewhere that you had to exclude Belize even though you are registered there.

Re: Unobtrusively Anonymizing the U.S. Postal Service With Smart Contracts

Hi Daniel. I'm trying to understand your process... can you clarify some steps? It's actually pretty easy to come up with a way to do this in a p2p network. However, it gets tricky when you take into account the individual motives, incentives, and decisions of the random participants in the transact...

Re: Is there anyone solving the problem of inability to collect recurring payments using Bitcoin?

A "solution" for this would be to build a layer on top of bitcoin, where the merchant can request a payment at a specified date. A wallet provider could "find" all these payment requests from all merchants that you have recurring payments with (you could e.g. send them through the bitmessage protoco...

Thanks for the info, yes it does help :D You're welcome. I was not quite satisfied myself yet with the comparison between a node that accepts inbound connections as compared to a node that only has outbound connections. So I compared my local node (on a painfully slow internet line) to my remote da...

Diskspace takes about 55 GB - 60 GB right now. /data/bitcoind # du -m --max-depth=1 1129 ./chainstate 1 ./database 56278 ./blocks 57413 .
