Re: WHY DO I NEED GOV. ISSUED I.D. TO BUY BITCOIN ?

what gives ? i thought bitcoin was anonymous ?
Bitcoin is not anonymous. It's pseudonymous.

If you take care and don't reuse addresses that's usually enough to protect your privacy. Keep in mind that every Bitcoin transaction is forever visible on the blockchain. If you exchange back to USD (or ...

Re: Wow. Classic-cloud.net is at max capacity [Capacity increased to 1500 nodes]

25% are full nodes while the rest are pruned nodes storing 10GB of the blockchain · you choose the data center
Technically both pruned and non-pruned nodes are "full nodes". Full comes from fully validating. From 0.12 on pruned node also does block relay of the most recent blocks.

Free bitcoins?

Sure why not. If I get some I'll forward them to my friends.

Re: I'm Henry Brade, Co-founder and CEO of Denarium and Bittiraha.fi, Ask Me Anything!

It is not enough that the different authorities know about Bitcoin, it is the policy makers that make the rules that the authorities must follow. So I think that there is a huge need to educate policy makers in Finland and in the whole EU - and as fast as possible. Because when bad regulation is ...

1. Any thoughts on "EU tightening control on virtual currencies" news/rumor as published by Reuters ?

2. Do you think that Bitcoin businesses in the EU and/or Finland have channels in place to educate policy makers about Bitcoin?

I hope that one day you are able to expand Bittiraha.fi so that all ...

I just want to thank you for everything you've done for Bitcoin. It's been very useful and certainly has made the world better.

Kiitoksia, mukavaa joulunaikaa ja kiintoisia hommia nykyisten / tulevien projektien parissa. :)

Re: Fire in a Crowded Theater

Bitcointalk and /r/bitcoin are websites (not part of the Bitcoin network) and they are owned by Theymos. On his own sites he can do whatever he likes, cat pictures everywhere, fascist theocracy, redirect to fed.gov, whatever.

Sure he can and obviously does. I don't know who handed him control of ...

Re: Fire in a Crowded Theater

I think it's a bad analogy. Ability to fork is an integral feature of Bitcoin and people can't make informed choices without free discussion.

The only conceivable reason to use censorship in a situation like this is when someone in position of power thinks that majority could otherwise choose ...

Re: My opinion regarding the block-size increase

I think moderation is always a slippery slope.

IMHO you should not ban accounts or delete posts unless they are outright spamming. Suspected scams can be labeled by moderators as such (in a thread title or post), but not deleted. Trolls should remain free as long as they don't spam. That's what ...

Re: More proof of censorship from /r/Bitcoin

Theymos's moderation was a defensive mechanism to the social attacks the community was facing. And he did a very good job, since now, r/bitcoin is friendly and peaceful place discuss and share thoughts.

Yes, our Great Leader defensively fought against evil saboteurs and terrorists trying to ...

bitconxt is trying to be bitcoin.

Bitcoin XT is Bitcoin just as much as Bitcoin Core is, both are compatible with bitcoin protocol and have the same genesis block and the same blockchain. It's just another client. This is a ...

Re: My opinion regarding the block-size increase

In China the electricity transport infrastructure is lot worse than it is in Europe or US. At times when local demand is low hydroelectric dams often produce excess electricity that can't be fed into the grid. The choice is either to let the water flow thru or use that "free" electricity for ...

Re: Why are you a member of this forum?

I registered to follow and maybe participate interesting discussions about Bitcoin where everyone is allowed to voice his/her views no matter how unpopular they might be.

I hope the tone of these discussions would stay respectful despite the lack of aggressive/partisan moderation and regardless of ...
