If the Hong Kong summit doesn't end with a consensus that includes a sizeable block size increase I think you and a lot of other people will come to the conclusion that the people in favour of smaller blocks don't understand economics and how the gold standard died step by step. As I understand bitcoin xt (from this source: http://www.coindesk.com/press-releases/coinify-supports-bitcoin-xt/) it
1. raises the block size and
2. gives better protection against ddos attacks by by deprioritizing Bitcoin nodes running on the Tor network
