I just wanted to share a long-time non-technical Bitcoiner's opinion piece. It's not my opinion represented by the article.

How BIP9 became a way for miners to prevent a soft-fork, not signal readiness.

There is no doubt at this time that BIP9 relying SOLELY on miners to activate BIP141 was a mistake. In the future, I suspect a combination of MASF and UASF will be necessary to overcome the challenges related to upgrading and gaining consensus. The BCC crowd voluntarily jumped ship, and too early in...

If satoshi was correct, hash power will never run it. Serious question for you: If Satoshi is wrong in this case (I'm not implying he would be right or wrong), then what does that mean for your nostalgic view of Satoshi? It would mean that despite satoshi's best efforts, a majority of miners were c...

I have absolutely no concerns about SegWit causing a problem for immutability. I am not sure what you even mean by this. Anyways, I am looking forward to making SegWit transactions on Bitcoin's mainnet, and testing new address formats such as BIP173. http://bitcoin.sipa.be/bech32/demo/demo.html seg...

Things aren't over yet. UASF may still happen but probably least likely. Segwit2x is going to happen but the 2x part will be fought hard and may not happen. UAHF (Bitcoin ABC) looks like it happening anyways on Aug 1st. Plus we still have ongoing alternative clients like BU and Classic. While thing...

There appears to be an unsubstantiated article (no quotes or links) that ViaBTC is planning to break the NYA, despite their pledge to support the SegWit2x working group (btc1): http://www.trustnodes.com/2017/07/16/viabtc-will-support-bitcoinabc I'm a little confused what the plan for the Bitcoin.com...

Re: Bitcoin can be divided into two parts

It looks like SegWit will activate via BIP91 before BIP148 would go into effect, and thus avoid a chain split. That's the plan. How can you say that? It's my understanding that a proposal for changes to the blockchain can be made but the nodes need to agree to adopt the changes. If 100% don't adopt...

July 21 will be presented to the software SegWit2x, then until the end of the month will check how many miners working on the new system. I f their share is more than 80%, it signals the avoidance of a split in the community , but if not - the tension will only increase. In this case Bitcoin, most l...

Re: Can Bitcoin and Ethereum co-exist?

The challenge is for these cryptocurrencies to survive and stay decentralized. Ethereum is very inefficient as a "decentralized computer". It's probably better for small contracts and tokens. ETC is really popular in China, so I think ETC is more of a competitor to ETH than BTC.

I think a split of the blockchain may happen. I'm not sure if the system will handle all implications, but it's definitely going to showcase how stable the bitcoin ecosystem is. I don't think there will be a chain split. I think that btc1 will activate SegWit on BIP91 and then we'll have a hardfork...

As a long-time bitcoiner myself, I'm honestly sick of both sides of this debate. I don't like BU's code and I don't like Core's attitude. Core should have scheduled a hard-fork to activate SegWit and increase the blocksize exactly as the Hong Kong agreement was supposed to be. BU (and XT and Classic...
