Re: P2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, trustless, censorship-resistant pool.

@jtoomim just FYI I made a nov15-activated testnet p2pool at testnet.imaginary.cash:19338, difficulty is 1.6 so proceed with care, but give it a shot. Can erect your own testnet node too to make sure everything's good to go including peering.

@jtoomim hashrate has dipped dramatically on BCH and your site went down. Did you move your hashrate? Or was that an accident?

Re: P2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, trustless, censorship-resistant pool.

@jtoomim I tried the fix, indeed performance improved quite a bit. I'm not benchmarking but CPU use seemed not saturated anymore under larger blocks. Wonder if there are other performance fixes.

@jtoomim re: the weird gaps, we hopped around some nodes and found even more eerily that the "gaps" are "synced" across nodes on multiple geographical locations - they occur at exactly the same time. Hope you get a good look soon!

@jtoomim, on BCH: It seems from recent traffic spikes that the software doesn't handle high tx traffic very well, latency and CPU usage both spiked when there was a string of large blocks. Is there a way to diagnose this?

Not official support, but it seems like the Desktop wallet versions are unaffected. If you need your funds urgently, restore you wallet on your desktop/laptop computer and you can send from there. Meanwhile hopefully the Android wallet is fixed soon.

Not a solution, but I'm having a similar problem: I can paste address into the "send" field, but when attempting to enter amount the keypad does nothing. This is Android Nougat. This is after the last update. Please fix, thanks.

Many of the charities I know requires collection of donor information, perhaps due to regulation. This runs counter to the nature of Bitcoiners, who generally like to remain as anonymous as possible - where "just give me a damn QR to scan" is the norm. Did you or the charities ever run into problem ...

In terms of centralization of decisions, once anything (not just Bitcoin) gets popular enough it will face a dilemma: most users don't really care either way as long as it's kinda tolerable. It's how representative democracy was born anyway, but having a select few people make all the decisions turn...

Re: I'm Mike Hearn, creator of Lighthouse, bitcoinj and Bitcoin XT. Ask me anything!

A prominent Chinese mining operator (Marshall Long) recently stated that they not only won't switch to XT, they in fact do not update their software at all, under almost all circumstances (because it's "a waste of money") unless they "have to", i.e. forced by something overwhelming. Given that the C...

Wait, how do you upgrade your Core version then, if any change to the pool server/software is frowned upon (i.e. 0.9 -> 0.10 -> 0.11 etc)? Is that what caused the F2Pool et. al. soft fork fiasco back in BIP66 days? XT aside, this seems like a major problem with how pools are done now - if upgrade p...

Sorry but that's BS. XT is a fork of bitcoin core, There is basically 0 difference whether the fork happen or not. The downtime would be basically non-existent if the migration is planned and executed right, so I'm curious what "waste of money" you are referring to? Generally, any change to the poo...

Re: I'm Marshall Long aka 挖矿王子 - Partner & CTO of FinalHash, LLC and a True Bitcoin OG

Thanks for doing the AMA! Two questions: 1. You mentioned the very high latency being a problem for Chinese miners - especially since as it's implemented right now, a block needs to "race" in its entirety from its originating node. However, Bitcoin XT is currently working on implementing IBLT, which...
