Re: How to make a account on Bitcoin Topic is solved

Hello-Well, at this point, I have a user name and a password. I guess that I'll start using the Electrum Bitcoin Wallet because I'm a beginner. All's I want to do is to make a purchase at a website for $87.00. Can someone please give to me SIMPLE, STEP-BY-STEP instructions as to how I can do this? ...

Re: what is the beast bitcoin alternative

It depends entirely on what you're looking for, for ex. Steem is a great project if you think wikipedia is a valuable resource and paying contributors for content would take it to the next level but it's not a great choice as a purely speculative investment. If a long term speculative investment is ...

Re: How to make a account on Bitcoin Topic is solved

I'll probably get flamed for this but XP is too vulnerable to run a Bitcoin wallet securely imho. Maybe get an Ubuntu live CD and try it out, see if you can live with it just for making bitcoin transaction and if it seems bearable install something even more secure such as Tails. Security really can...

Re: How to make a account on Bitcoin Topic is solved

To be honest I wouldn't know :) The core wallet is extremely heavy on computing resources, it's the full Bitcoin client and running it is a benefit to the network but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to a regular user, it's better suited to dedicated servers and users that absolutely need a full co...

Re: The difference between a good and bad economist.

A good economist would take one look at Bitcoins economic principles and immediately pronounce it unsustainable and doomed to eventual failure. Few do though, even the supposed very best of them declare it doomed for entirely the wrong reasons but such is the holy church of economics, it has its pom...

Re: How to make a account on Bitcoin Topic is solved

Pick a wallet and go for it, Bitcoin is decentralised so there's no kind of central authority to register with or anything like that. I'd suggest taking some time to understand the risks and vulnerabilities before converting any significant amount though, all the cotton wool of legacy financial syst...

By a good margin too and I'm not surprised, that's a serious amount of work for the budget requested! It would be worth keeping a watch on that team, it sounds like they really know what they're doing and if they do this one well then any of their future projects could get really solid support :)

Re: UK Bans End-to-End Encryption, Mandates Government Authority Over Encrypted Technologies

UK too. What's next, covert citizen surveys? Soon it would be hard to bash some country like US for privacy violation... If anything the UK is worse, GCHQ might be more subtle than the NSA but I doubt they're any more limited in their practises, just better at getting away with it. And cameras... o...

Re: Need help extracting usable BTC from a wallet.dat.txt file.

A very rough way to check if it's encrypted or not, open it up in a hex editor and amidst all the garbled up info there should be some fairly obvious text strings, key or ckey. If they're ckey then the wallet is encrypted, key is unencrypted. On a backup of course! There are plenty of free hex edito...

Have you guys seen StackOverflow's system? They have a Bitcoin section that I used to be relatively active in. Boy do you get good, high quality responses there. Not only do they have that super-strict voting policy, but their community is small and extremely knowledgeable. I'd urge you all to just...

No, sorry but if you old wallet is deleted and you've no backups then you've no way of recovering your BTC. If you've been using that system for a while after reinstalling then I'm sorry to say you're out of options, if you'd only very recently re-installed then there's a slim chance you could recov...

How come I can't use the login here to comment on the article? And how come the article missed the most important bit?? We're not far from the point where the primary business shifts from mining to renewable energy, the electricity is sold during high demand periods and used for mining off-peak. Ren...

Re: Bitcoinist - Ukraine Economy Bailout Presents Bitcoin Opportunity

For some countries around the world, times are very tough as local economies are starting to fall apart. Ukraine is one of those countries, as inflation will be hitting a record-high of 44 percent later this year. Combine that number with a near 25-percent inflation, and anyone can see why the Ukra...

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3uhc99/optin_fullrbf_just_got_merged_into_bitcoin_core/ Wtf, is this for real? This effects way more existing users than the blocksize issue yet its been implemented with little discussion? This is really screwed up, imo main "feature" of this is it allows b...

Re: Segregated Witness is cool • Gavin Andresen

Pieter Wuille gave a fantastic presentation on “Segregated Witness” in Hong Kong. It’s a great idea, and should be rolled into Bitcoin as soon as safely possible. It is the kind of fundamental idea that will have huge benefits in the future. It also needs a better name (“segregated” has all sorts o...

Have you seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak-kjz2wkoE pretty interesting idea. Really interesting idea to get rid of the power supply, but I doubt that this is economically feasible, because the miner would be sitting idle at night. It would've worked for a while early on but it'd need co...

Do you thing the difficulties of the blocksize debate will result in a more effective decision making process for future Bitcoin development and if so any thoughts on how that might work?

Thanks.

On one hand Bitcoin fails one of the classical points that define money but on the other that definition is almost forgotten in todays monetary systems and the traceability aspect will have given a major boost to Bitcoins acceptance. I'd often wondered if bitcoin would develop black and white econom...

Hi, thanks for doing this AMA.

Do you see blockchains changing significantly any time soon? I'm thinking along the lines of Tangle but basically things other than single monolithic chains becoming the more popular implementations.
