Send Crypto Donations Easily to Nonprofits and Other Organizations

Wed Mar 25, 2020 12:46 am

I'm the CEO of a high-growth tech startup out of Chicago called Silent Donor. A quick run-down:
- We are an online platform that allows for people to send anonymous donations to organizations they are passionate about.
- We accept crypto as way for people to send an anonymous donation (right now, we accept: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Dai, Bitcoin Cash, and USD Coin)
- Some of our crypto users have told us to reach out to this community to help spread the word that we offer an easy way to send an anonymous donation via crypto to any reputable organization (even GoFundMe campaigns) in order to reach some of the more philanthropic-minded crypto investors in this network. Hope this is interesting to some of you!

Why you should send an anonymous donation (especially via cryptocurrency):
Sending a donation used to be lauded for what it is, an act of generosity. However, we have seen countless stories in the news of people and companies relentlessly attacked over the causes they choose to support. Donating has turned into a highly public and oftentimes politicized affair. From a high school kid who wedged a divide in his community over donating his talent show winnings to Planned Parenthood (actual, true story), to boycotts at Chik-fil-A or Soul Cycle, to the founder of Mozilla getting fired as CEO of his own company over a donation - where we choose to donate can and does have real and lasting ramifications today.

Also, for the people who have ever sent a donation, you have found out another ugly side of the business - you will be continually solicited via text, email, physical mail, or phone calls until seemingly the end of time. Without your knowledge or consent, charities/non-profits will share access to their donor lists. Some even put their donor lists up for sale. It's such a known problem that the Better Business Bureau has a webpage dedicated to strategies to try to remove yourself from such lists.

We believe strongly that people and companies should feel free to support causes they are passionate about without having to worry about facing any unwanted attention or potentially ruinous backlash. This fear that donors feel also manifests itself in a secondary negative outcome, which is that deserving organizations are robbed of the funds they need to help the causes they are serving.

We feel the desire that many feel; we want to take back our privacy in an era that will be defined by data breaches and social media saturation. Simply put, if you send a public donation today, you may be placing yourself at the whims of civil society. If people disagree with the cause you are linked with, or if this cause or organization falls out of favor with the public, or if it undertakes some controversial action, you or your business is automatically painted as a public supporter of their actions (even if you are very much not). Gain peace of mind by sending donations anonymously.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
