Localbitcoins.com is your best bet to buy quickly and they offer a ton of funding options.

For the best recourse in-case something goes wrong, buy your bitcoin from a LB seller that is in your municipality!

You can buy them face to face in an in-person trade, or buy them online using an exchange.

For trades, you can use services such as LocalBitcoins, Paxful, or Mycelium Local Trader as platforms to connect you to people looking to sell bitcoins in your area.

Or you can sign up for a bitcoin exchange, get verified by tying your bank account to it, and buy bitcoins on their site. The exchange will match your buy order to someone who wants to sell bitcoins.

Mt. Gox? I like the nostalgia, but they went bankrupt quite spectacularly!

There are numerous exchanges out there. Do your research before sending them any money, as exchanges are not regulated and should be treated as such. Some are trustworthy and professional, some are scams. Often, by asking people and researching - and being 'better safe than sorry' you can avoid expensive mistakes.

(I wish I had listened to that myself, when Mt Gox went under. Its now M-T-Gox (Empty Gox)).

I trust Bitstamp and Kraken, and have used them both. But I never leave any money with an exchange after the trade. Move in - Trade - Move out.
