Upcoming AMA Event with Lyn Ulbricht

Sun Apr 23, 2017 7:35 am

We are planning to hold an AMA soon with Lyn Ulbricht, mother of Ross Ulbricht and i really want to turn this into a fund raising event with a couple of charity raffles/auctions and giveaways with all funds raised being donated to the FreeRoss organization .

I am planning out a timeline for the event and would like it to run for a couple of weeks accumulating with the AMA itself during which we can present Lyn with all the money/bitcoins raised from the events held.

So far i have a few goods to raffle and auction off but the more we get donated the more money we can raise for this worthy cause.
Bitcoin.com has graciously agreed to donating goods from The Bitcoin Shop most likely in the form of gift cards as prizes for the events that will be held.
I will personally donate a matching numbered set of Goxxed Again #81 physical bitcoins for a charity raffle with all funds raised being donated to the FreeRoss fund.

I know that we have a great community here so i am putting the call out to ask our members if anyone would be kind enough to donate anything they can to be auctioned off during the event for the charity, i really want to us to raise as much as i can for the organisation.

Since i would like to get this started as soon as possible anyone wishing to donate goods can either PM myself or post here what they have and no matter how big or small it will all be put towards raising funds for FreeRoss.org.
I am sure that we can make a special mention somewhere on bitcoin.com for those who donate goods for the event. ;)

If you do not know the story about Silk Road or Ross Ulbricht then i would encourage you to have read up on this huge miscarriage of justice.
Ross is a man who has been locked up for life without the possibility of parole for running the Silk Road site, his trial was full of dodgy evidence presented by corrupt LEA officers who since have been convicted and jailed themselves.
Below is just a small excerpt from the FreeRoss site:
Ross Ulbricht, a peaceful 32-year-old, was given a sentence of double life without parole for all non-violent charges for his alleged role in the Silk Road website. No victim was named at trial.
Silk Road was a “dark web” site, based on a libertarian philosophy of a free market, where people the world over could trade bitcoin for a variety of goods, not all of them legal.
The investigation, trial and sentencing are rife with government corruption, abuse, and violations, including:
Warrantless seizure of Silk Road server: It is still not determined if this was the result of illegal government hacking.
Corrupt federal investigators hidden from jury: While working for the DEA, Secret Service and NSA, two federal agents stole over $1 million from the site while investigating it. They had unfettered access to the site and server, with the ability to tamper unreservedly. They are now in prison, while the extent of the corruption remains undisclosed.
Defense cross examination repeatedly curtailed or denied at trial.
Defense witnesses blocked from testifying.
Unproven, uncharged, unconvicted allegations of murder-for-hire were used to deprive Ross of bail; prejudice the jury; justify a draconian life sentence; and are included in the government’s reply in the appeal.
4th Amendment violations: Illegal general warrants and warrantless pen traps were used in the investigation.
Sentenced to double life without parole + 40 years for all non-violent charges.
Newly discovered evidence tampering: Proof that evidence in the case was tampered with was announced by Ulbricht’s legal team in late November, 2016. In addition, evidence was unearthed that someone using the DPR account logged into the Silk Road forum seven weeks after Ross was arrested.
Case now in appeal: Ross and his defense team are challenging several violations. At stake are, among other issues, due process rights and fair trials; important precedents impacting 4th Amendment rights, privacy and sentencing.
If anyone has any fundraising ideas for the event then please post below and we will look into making it work.
If you have any questions feel free to post below.

I'm very looking forward to this AMA.

I suggest other members to donate even if it's just a dollar or two. Unfortunately I'm currently a not well-off student as of now so..

Anyway thanks to whoever spent the time to make arrangements for this AMA. :)

Idea for generating donations - a raffle of some decent Bitcoin.com or general Bitcoin merch. Everyone that makes a donation of a set minimum ( BTC 0.005) get entered in the raffle.

Getting some prizes may be a tad tough, but I'm sure the Global Mods can get their hands on worthy items and OG Nasty always seems up for these sorts of opportunities to promote the Nasty Coin.

Are you planning on advertising on Bitcointalk? The people that cruise the Collectibles sub-forum have loads of giveaway type stuff.

Funding Ideas: It's more ambitious than just helping Ulbright get out of the pokey, but using Ulbright as a launchpad and impetus: create an ICO to fund a project to create an insurance-style network of legal entities and clients, whereby clients use a LawCoin (or whatever moniker is clever) to bind smart contracts between legal entities who provide a promise of legal support in times of need and clients who may need them. Use a (small portion) of ICO value raised to directly and immediately fund Ulbright's defense; use the lion's share of the ICO funds raised to create a decentralized network of value and smart legal entities robust enough to defend folks like Ulbright, Snowden, Assange from legal assault by vested interests in times of need. In this way, perhaps we can keep efforts to curb such obvious corruption by vested interests from ever needing to spill over into the realm of real violence, even though said vested interests use fraud and real violence to create their own monopolies.

It is a very interesting idea, have you looked into getting this project off the ground yet?

Did the AMA happen yet?

I've donated a few times to freeross.org. I'd like to donate to his commissary but honestly don't want to use my name, I know cowardly just don't want the state looking into me I enjoy what little privacy I still have and western union was only way to donate to the commissary. Hopefully others not as paranoid as me will donate, because having done a small time in jail I know commissary is like the only thing that makes time any easier, at least for me. Best wishes to Ross and his family. I'm a firm believer that without the Silk Road Bitcoin would have taken much longer to succeed, it was the first Bitcoin economy and it was run much better than the current darknet markets. Ross will be remembered as a hero BTC

Not yet, Lyn has been very busy with Ross's recent appeal trial.

I will make contact again in a couple of days and see if we can get this going.

Lol, if you are quoting me then i actually have those coins right in front of me now. I really need to contact Lyn again about getting this started, i know she has been very busy with other work lately so this has been on hold for awhile now.
I was also trying to get a few more donations in before starting but that doesn't seem to have acquired to much which is a shame.

If you would like to make a bid on the coins now then please go ahead and post here, i will start the auction and donate all the funds the the FreeRoss charity (with txid as proof) ;)
