Should Bitcoin Cash branding be changed to Bitcoin 2.0?

I think this is a great branding idea! People want to be using the "latest version."

My only issue is that Bitcoin Cash is actually "Bitcoin 1.0" while Bitcoin Core is actually a cruftified "Bitcoin 2.0"

Also agree this is better branding than "Bitcoin Cash".

This might be okay if the idea is to supplant XBT rather than coexist with it.
Also, is the idea that there can/should keep being a succession of forks into "Bitcoin 3.0" "Bitcoin 4.0" over the years ahead? That's what using numbers in the name makes it sound like to a n00b like me.

Alternative "monikers" for the fun of it:
Bitcoin Instant
Bitcoin Flex
Bitcoin Total
Bitcoin Peerless (too punny..?)
Bitcoin Prime (may facilitate adoption by Amazon..?)
Bitcoin Free
Bitcoin P2P
Bitcoin Premium
(Sorry, no fancy logo mockups...)

Someone new to Bitcoin but working at the Bitcoin.com office mentioned that he thought this would be better branding than Bitcoin Cash.
I just wanted to put the idea out there to see what other people think.

I don't believe so. This kind of goes back to the roots and what we [the general community] believes Bitcoin to be. Remember Bitcoin started out as Internet Money, because it was super fast and very cheap. It holds many of the same properties as cash as well. It's the perfect solution for online payments.

If Bitcoin Cash gains market acceptance then the tables would flip and Bitcoin Cash would become Bitcoin. This doesn't change that Bitcoin is like cash. Bitcoin was internet cash before the fork. Now it just has a name, Bitcoin Cash. It's still Bitcoin, it just needs market acceptance from all network parties (miners, devs, users, exchanges, wallets, companies, etc). I hope that makes sense! :)

Roger, I know the green is probably not your original idea, but if the aim is to differentiate Bitcoin Core orange from Bitcoin Cash, green is pretty much the worst colour to pick. It looks barely different from orange to someone with the most common type of colour blindness. Here's your OP run through a web filter:

We should consider another colour (if we're changing the colour at all) to something like blue, cyan or purple.

Major cryptoexchange bitFlyer has just recently added colored logos for crypotcurrencies in its desktop-friendly website interface (the insignias were all grey about 24 hours ago... at least, they all looked grey to me. I do have some standard male color-defectiveness with greens and greys.)

Questions of color blindness prevalence aside, I think brand differentiation by color is a smart idea.
I think green is the winner over orange anyway--green is generally very positive and connotes newness, speed, and being socially-conscious. Also isn't green actually a byword for cash in the US (on account of the color of its banknotes)?

BTW, I would have thought that including a number in a currency name might also be bad in terms of potential confusion between "Bitcoin 2.0" and "BTC 2.0 (ie 2.0 bitcoins)."

How about a branding that:
- keeps "Bitcoin Cash" and "BCH"(/"BCC") as the official name and ticker
- uses a logo (at points of sale etc) with just "bitcoin" (no version numbering) but in green,* and with smaller lettering underneath stating 'bitcoin cash'
Sorry again for no mockups. Maybe Mjbmonetarymetals can make one--he certainly made a lot over here: topic48603.html
* GreyWyvern, I defer to your design knowledge re colors. Meanwhile can we do a thread on GreyWyvern branding? Your avatar pic makes me want to type "GreenWyvern."

New user here, but long time graphic designer and have a lot of experience with branding, marketing, etc.

From a brand standpoint if you call BCC Bitcoin 2.0 the "original" bitcoin will die. Consumers will see 2.0 as better and they generally cannot differentiate the two. That's why we have trademark and copyright laws. If the intention is to coexist, then it should be an additional name that speaks to its primary advantage over Bitcoin 1.0.

Unfortunately, with a new hard fork coming up we might have 3 coins called bitcoin and consumers will not know the difference or care. They are more likely to put money somewhere that doesn't have a branding problem like Ether, DASH, Litecoin, etc.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately but I don't have an real firm conclusion. Just thought I would mention it : )

I like the green color scheme. It is a nice change. I'm for it, Roger!

I'd tend to just say Bitcoin 2 without the dot zero. But if you want to make it more geeky, use 2.0. It's already called Bitcoin Cash everywhere however, so it's likely that giving it a new name will increase the confusion.

Calling it Bitcoin 2 is claiming it to be the successor of the other chain(s). Maybe the Cash chain is less crapy because of the things that were removed, but in reality Cash is closer to being the previous version than the next version of Bitcoin right now. It's the original chain that has the newest features (segwit), regardless of how desirable or not those features are.

Personally, I think Bitcoin 2 will be a good name once Cash has the lead and has made some technical progress. I'm not against calling it Bitcoin 2, but this claim about it being the successor won't get free pass from the other parties. They'll fight it in the media and will have good arguments about this being a misrepresentation (same as mine above).

That said, some drama around this might help put Cash in the spotlight, which could be beneficial regardless of how much sense it makes to call it a version 2. So if you want drama, push for it. 8-) With some luck, maybe that name can become a self-fulfilling prophecy (we have a lot of those in economics).

we'll know if its a good call or not gauging by how salty small blockers get.

so far, none of the trolls are bothering to be toxic so i'd say 2.0 is not the move.

Bitcoin Core is at 0.15 and Bitcoin Classic released 1.0 some time ago.

Not sure if its helpful to jump over the 1.x series.

I like Bitcoin 2.0. I'm not sure about the green. I prefer the (฿) with a white circle around it.
