Here is the quote from the original Bitcoin white paper.

Segwit removes the signatures and allows them to be discarded, so there would no longer be a "chain of digital signatures".
By the definition of Bitcoin given in the original whitepaper, they would no longer be Bitcoins.
What part of that logic do you disagree with?

Well, yeah, if we look at it that way, then Bitcoin Classic is closer to Satoshis original version, but hey, that is beauty of blockchain, each side can do as they agree.
