Shapeshifting currency on the fly

If I have a public address for Bitcoin in my wallet.
And in another wallet/account I have some ETC (Minergate), can I transfer directly into my Bitcoin address and does it convert on the fly?
Or can I only transfer from ETC to ETC?

Do you mean does your ETC automatically convert to BTC if you sent ETC to your BTC address?

If that's what you meant, then no. To convert ETC to BTC you'd have to sell the ETC, then buy BTC.

I personally like shapeshift.io but for such things. Be sure you add the correct return addresses in case your trade does not complete as intended so your funds may be returned.
