The word "legal" implies that a state has handed down an official opinion on Bitcoin. So it really depends on the political region in which you reside. :)

Coin.dance has a nice chart of legality of Bitcoin by country: https://coin.dance/poli#legalitybycountry

FWIW, where I am it is legal. For now...

It's possible. bitcoin is slowly being legalized. But only on some countries as of today. Recently I think it was India? I forgot what country it was stated on the article I've read.

As of now, on most countries bitcoin is legal nor illegal.

This question has been floating around a lot lately. And here's a list of bitcoin legality by country >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_ ... _territory

If it's not illegal it can be considered legal, no? But obviously some Countries are making greater effort to formally declare and welcome bitcoin into their economic systems. Japan and Australia probably lead the world in these efforts.

In the era of digital technology, money in any case, too, had to move into digital format, and therefore there is such a large amount of crypto currency. Just bitcoin became one of the first and most famous. If you can legally get bitcoin and pay for legal purchases, then why should it be illegal?

The legalization depends on the country to country, which one you are talking about?

A few countries have accepted bitcoin and have decided to actually create laws that govern Bitcoin transactions. The first country to completely accept bitcoin was Japan. India seems to be next in line to legalizing bitcoin, now that the government has agreed to regulate bitcoin. The Indian government has agreed that regulating bitcoin could be beneficial and is currently creating the laws to do so. The Reserve Bank of India is also considering using the blockchain technology in banking.

Bitcoin is of interest to law enforcement agencies, tax authorities, and legal regulators, all of which are trying to understand how the cryptocurrency fits into existing frameworks. The legality of your bitcoin activities will depend on who you are, where you live, and what you are doing with it.

What do you mean legal? It is just a bunch of numbers. Ones and zeros.

Legalization of bitcoin varies substantially from country to country and is still undefined or changing in many of them.
Whilst the majority of countries do not make the usage of bitcoin itself illegal (with the exceptions of some countries), its status as "money" varies, with differing regulatory implications.
While some countries have explicitly allowed its use and trade, others have banned or restricted it.
Likewise, various government agencies, departments, and courts have classified bitcoins differently.

Depends on jurisdiction. Legal in pretty much all jurisdictions. In Japan it is considered a currency. There are some countries in which selling / buying Bitcoin is illegal though. Few, retarded countries.

At the moment most countries do not allow or prohibit bitcoins. So it's not exactly to say bitcoin legal or not.

I would think that bitcoin will be legal in states where state government law specifically mentioned an official sanction for the use of bitcoin technology. To be even more specific, for all uses of bitcoin to be legal, every aspect of it must be officially approved.

The entity of its technology and everything that comes with it (blockchain, decentralization, anonymity, mining, mining fees) must be permitted.

The adoption of bitcoin as a form of currency and store of value must be permitted as well. Just legalizing the technology itself does not necessarily translate to permission of bitcoin as a form of currency. From what I see, to have bitcoin be fully legalized as a form a currency, state-issued licenses will be required for any exchange platform that transacts bitcoin.

On the other hand, if there exists no specific state law regarding the sanction of bitcoin, then the use of bitcoin technology and everything that comes with it will not violate any existing law, hence NOT illegal.

As for current situation, I would say that bitcoin is neither legal nor illegal.

At the moment, you can not say legal or illegal about bitcoin. Rather not forbidden, because you can not prohibit buying it completely.

But if I come to Belarus, do I need a Belarusian passport to freely conduct transactions and cash out my money?
