Node count is up too, from ~5300 to ~5500. I wonder if people are spinning up new nodes because of increased interest or because of SegWit/Unlimited?

Blockstream started buying Core nodes to prop up their count several months ago.

As for the real Bitcoin under Unlimited, the count has been climbing, slowly but surely. I'm actually quite impressed, I gained entry in the double digits, now the count is in the tripple digits. If you are a business, run your own node.

I think the current spike in BTC and gold is directly related to the US election and the uncertainty that a trump presidency brings to the table.

Would not surprise me at all if that were to happen. I would actually become more concerned if that was not the scenario we face when the community is 10x the size it is now.
