Zcoin $25,000 commitment to charities supporting Ross Ulbricht

Sun Oct 16, 2016 3:38 pm

From: http://blog.zcoin.tech/announcing-25000 ... -ulbricht/

When Ross Ulbricht created Silk Road, he set on a grand journey to increase individual liberty, and free commerce. His prototype of this radical free market experiment would bring safety and liberty to peaceful drug users from around the world.

In his own words:

“I want to use economic theory as a means to abolish the use of coercion and aggression amongst mankind. Just as slavery has been abolished most everywhere, I believe violence, coercion and all forms of force by one person over another can come to an end. The most widespread and systemic use of force is amongst institutions and governments, so this is my current point of effort. The best way to change a government is to change the minds of the governed, however. To that end, I am creating an economic simulation to give people a first-hand experience of what it would be like to live in a world without the systemic use of force.”
Ross’s vision of peaceful free markets is also a core value shared by the Zcoin project. Here at Zcoin, we believe that individuals should have the liberty to purchase, sell, and ingest whatever they want, as long as it does not involve coercion or violence by one person or institution over another.

Throughout history, it has been shown that prohibition against drugs is not just largely ineffective. Prohibition also endangers the lives of peaceful drug users by putting them in physical harm during the drug transaction process, and also allowing for merchants to sell contraband and dangerous material in the absence of self-regulating markets. The same modern-day logic that is bringing down marijuana prohibition worldwide should apply to other drugs eventually. Thus, Ross Ulbricht stood on the right side of history, peacefully using technology to resist against the bandits in government that have turned the drug war into a profitable business through government asset seizure. Through Silk Road, Ross created a prototype of a self-regulating and open marketplace that could help end the war on drugs. In an ideal world under sane and rational public policies, Ross should not have been punished at all. However, for creating a website that only facilitated the peaceful free commerce of others, Ross was punished to a life in prison without parole. His sentencing was completely beyond the range of what drug offenders get in America, and drastically harsher than what even the prosecutor sought after.

In the fight for justice and liberty, Zcoin is committing a donation of 100 Zcoins per month, for 4 years, to charities and organizations supporting Ross Ulbricht. At press time, Zcoin is priced at $5. At current prices, this would equate roughly to a $25,000 donation to the defense fund over the course of 4 years. We are currently doing due diligence on the various organizations supporting Ross Ulbricht. In an upcoming blog post, we will make a final announcement about the organizations that we will be donating to.

Here at Zcoin, we believe that powerful technology can peacefully change illogical and harmful public policies, including the war on drugs. Specifically, when Zero-Knowledge proofs are combined with the Bitcoin Protocol, a powerful combination of Zero-Knowledge privacy and decentralization can lead to free markets and open commerce. Thus, Zcoin works to harness the power of the Zerocoin Protocol to bring individual liberty, free markets, and peace to the world.
