There's probably a lot of the early bitcoins which has been lost. They were basically worthless at the time, and some people probably didn't think that it would change.
I believe that have changed a lot. Bitcoins are still being lost, but only by accident or by 'too much security' (e.g. when someone dies and the relatives don't get informed, or get informed but in a way that's not helpful).
If the amount of bitcoin gets VERY small, it will be a problem. But even if half of the bitcoin got lost, it would just increase the value of those which is left.
Eventually, it might. But I can't see it happen for a hundred years or more.
