Blockstream Supporters Mock Those Who Study Economics

Mon Aug 21, 2017 1:34 am

Over the past few years many of the Blockstream supporters have mocked me claiming that I think I understand economics because I read a book on it once. I don't claim to know everything about economics, or even a lot, but I'm sure I've read more on this subject than most people with college degrees on the subject. Here is a partial list of economics books and essays that I've read cover to cover, some of them I've read multiple times.
They are in no particular order, and just because I've read them doesn't mean I agree with everything, or even anything in the book.
It is simply meant to show that I do have a deep educational background in the study of economics despite what many Blockstream supporters may have you believe.

Adam Smith Ludwig von Mises Henry Hazlitt Murray N. Rothbard Milton Friedman David Friedman Henry Grady Weaver Frederick Bastiat F. A. Hayek Harry Browne David Boaz Lysander Spooner Karl Marx Friedrich Engels John Maynard Keynes Robert T. Kiyosaki
 • Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!
There are actually quite a few more, but these are all I have time to list at the moment.
I'll add links and other books I recall at future date.

I think closing with a quote from my favorite economist is appropriate:

I'm getting sick of being constantly censored on /r/bitcoin for no reason. Really hate that echo chamber.

I agree. But how can obviously intelligent people be so lacking?
Hence my surmise, it is an intentional ignorance, designed to reap vast remuneration for those concerned.

Recently someone who was reading this thread was nice enough to email me some photos of his own books that have a huge amount of overlap to the ones that I have read as well.
I thought others might enjoy them too:

I'm absolutely new. I want to start with Adam Smith. I majored in science ... but since I left school, economics is the topic that I keep being forced to poke around and figure out. Keep learning!

I'm doubtful that you are wanting to have a serious conversation, but I think a strong case can be made that Bitcoin Cash has more of the metrics that make it Bitcoin than the Segwit 1x coin.

Let me get this straight... Bitcoin.com posted an image of blockchain forks that didn't mesh with your worldview. So rather than question your worldview, reach a sound conclusion and reaffirming your own stance, instead you searched for the first troll image that immediately soothed the "wrongness" you were feeling in your brain, and blindly accepted it as proving the Bitcoin.com image "so wrong." Then you posted it here as if we should all have the same epiphany you did, slap our foreheads and wonder what the heck we were thinking all this time.

Is that about right? Do you feel like a clever man?

You are right to fork the image as you have, it brings clarity to all of this, hang in there, that bloated "devlocked" chain weighting down the middle will fall soon, and those "shitcoins" will brighten right up like you wouldn't believe.

No Hans-Hermann Hoppe. 0/10. (In seriousness, nice book list). Would recommend Hoppe's work http://www.hanshoppe.com/publications/

I've been meaning to read some Hoppe for many years now, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

One day soon.

Truth is timeless, so I think most of the book above are still very relevant.

Since my involvement in Bitcoin, I haven't had much time for reading for pleasure...
Maybe some other people in this thread can make some recommendations.

Hi,

Thank you for the list. I have to admit that I am almost an illiterate in economics, and I want to start learning about how the world's economics, money, inflation, etc. works, so, could you please tell me a reference to start with?

Thank you in advance

Luis

This thread has evolved into something really confusing. I lost my train of thought at shitcoin.

Anyways, very impressive list of reads! I'm trying to broaden my horizons, I come from the field of life sciences originally, I only later started discovering the world of finance and economics. How much time did it take you to accumulate so many books?

Unfortunately the stickyness of existing platforms is super hard to overcome.
You can give r/BTC a try though. It has lots of users, and no censorship.

I love that Rothbard quote, and it can be applied to discussion around different branches of science as well. Anyways, I have to say, that list of books is truly impressive!
