Introduction to Freenet: A Censorship-Resistant Network

Sun Oct 23, 2016 1:19 pm

Has anybody heard anything about the Freenet Network?

I have not had time to follow the deepdotweb.com site as much as i used to but found this today and it sounds interesting.
Quote from article:
Freenet enables the user (that would be you) to create a fake computer-generated identity so that others won’t know who you are – unless you choose to share that information.
It does this through a system called the Web of Trust (WoT), which helps filter out spam, bots, and other unwelcome identities. The WoT consists of a network of pseudonymous identities generated by the network when you first join.

I found this tutorial video on youtube, it all look safe enough but i really don't know enough about this stuff to say if all instructions are safe, please proceed with caution. If someone who has more knowledge on this could watch the quick video and say if it's safe or not would be appreciated.

Edit: It has been pointed out that this network has unfortunately been taken over by pedophiles so i would not recommend it to anyone, especially when there are alternatives available.

Yeah , in his early hours, Freenet was an interesting alternative to i2P , but I have personally stopped my node around 2 years ago, since Freenet has become a place primarily used by, and for pedophiles... unfortunately sad, but true :(

Ah OK, thanks for pointing that out.
Wish the fucking article said it was mainly used by pedophiles so I never would have posted it.

Anyone think I should trashcan this thread?

Maybe instead of deleting the thread you could just edit the OP to include a warning about the pedophile nature of Freenet. That way people can stay clear of it. I know I'm glad to have found out here rather than accidentally figuring that out!
yeah , I agree 100 % . in fact, it's a good thing to let it know to people ... :|
Freenet was a super alternative to I2P and Tor.. the system by itself is good .

I already did know freeweb. All the dark corners on every Network could be abused for awefull meanings.
For the concept censorship-resistant ZeroNet seems intresting.

yeah, man.. but not all the dark "corners" (as you said)... were over-used by pedos as Freenet was .. ( by chance) LOL
about Zeronet: it really needs more improvements...

I haven't updated this since forever, but it's probably mostly still relevant:

How this differs from TOR?
