What does this mean? Are you just creating your own app or are you representing the entire Bitcoin core foundation?

We are a group of Bitcoin users forking Bitcoin back to its original vision of scaling on-chain to the world; with or without miner majority.
That means there will be one or more hard fork clients which will spin-off the existing Bitcoin chain to present on-chain scaling solutions (bigger blocks and whatever other features they may deem able to "sell" to Bitcoin users)

This effort does not represent or promote any one particular fork proposal, in fact several are probably in development.

For more information, see the website - it goes into detail on how it views the road ahead, and how people can participate.

Let's code that road!

;-)

How are you going to cope with difficulty?

hi rizlarolla,

we acknowledge that a fork that wishes to compete with the main chain needs to reset difficulty to low, at least in the initial phase.

There is ongoing discussion about how the difficulty should be adjusted after that, but currently I see some broad consensus within the community of forkers on a couple of things:

- forks that preserve Bitcoin's existing qualities to the maximum extent while solving the block size limit with minimal changes might be seen as favorable by the market

- there is support for continued 10-minute block period and the current 2-week (2016 block) retargeting

- there is good consensus to try to develop a fork with only minimal necessary changes to existing Bitcoin protocol

The question becomes how to get back to the 2016 block retargeting.
I think we will evaluate several proposal algorithms, incl. a start at e.g. 8/16/32 block retargeting which is gradually increased back up to 2016 blocks.

Thanks for reply freetrader.
Is this just another [altcoin / pump and dump]? No! First of all this is not an altcoin; it is a Bitcoin implementation that forks from the main chain, preserving the same UTXO set, genesis block, and blockchain up to a certain height. While some may redefine the word "altcoin" to include any forks of the main chain outside the de facto reference implementation, we do not agree with this disingenuous use of the term. https://bitcoinforks.org/
If difficulty is reduced, I cannot see how it can be anything but an altcoin.
But a hard fork is hard? A hard fork is hard but necessary. After the first fork is executed, we expect the ecosystem of tools surrounding the management of forks to become increasingly robust, supporting future forks in a far more seamless and low-effort fashion. https://bitcoinforks.org/
A hard fork using lower difficulty is not hard to do. It is very simple. Anyone could hardfork in that way.
Forking the main chain is hard.

I have written a general post on this subject here. bitcoin-discussion/bitcoin-vs-paypal-a- ... t9777.html
I look forward to any comments on that.

I think difficutly is just one property which a hardfork CAN change. In your definition its also not really possible to change the PoW mechanism with a hardfork.

I would be interested to know what people like Gavin or Mike think about this. Maybe they would be on board.

Of course a hard fork CAN change anything. That is part of the reason "forking" with almost no hash power is valueless. (everything would be changed by everyone who knows better!)
Hash power is trust. That is why we have hash power.
So a hard fork, unsupported by majority hash power, is not forking Bitcoin.

Or else we WOULD already have forks of "real" bitcoin classic, unlimited, XT and segwit, for example, and many, many more. All "real" Bitcoin.
Unfortunately, Core have "inherited" the position of control over Bitcoin. (and now respectfully f**k satoshi?)
These incumbents must be ousted to fork Bitcoin, or will be ousted if when bitcoin forks.
