Will bitcoin replace gold?

Fri Aug 24, 2018 6:23 pm

Gold in general is no better. The value of gold is nothing more than a result of a global consensus - at the moment everyone agrees to consider gold a measure of value, simply because this measure is in some form or another necessary. If we assume a utopian situation, that tomorrow everyone agrees that gold is not such a measure, then it will be good only for the production of quality wires and trinkets.
The btc is gaining momentum for exactly the same reason - the global consensus towards the btc is constantly being strengthened. In this case, unlike gold, the cue-ball is not only a measure of value, but also a settlement system, and gold is not a competitor for this parameter.

It is an interesting point. In some instances, Bitcoin has replaced gold as a safe haven go-to asset. When the Turkish Lira was collapsing recently, there was more volume in Bitcoin and more interest.

Bitcoin is the reasonable primary contender to supplant gold the world has ever observed," Mr. Pfeffer said. "So if bitcoin turns into the predominant non-sovereign store of significant worth, it could be the new gold or new hold cash." ... At the time, the estimation of one bitcoin was near $20,000.

I don't think that it will happen in this lifetime. Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin has a lot of value but it doesn't mean that it will replace Gold. Gold was, is and will remain one of the most valued commodity of all time. Every person dreams of getting their hands on a piece of gold.

It can happen if crypto will be regulated by government.
But now it's decentralized and can't be more expensive than gold.

BTC and gold will always be two separate things. Although it would be interesting, if you paid in real gold and only BTC on the net.

Bitcoin is already replacing Gold. In actuality, Gold is just another precious metals asset, while Bitcoin is just another cryptocurrency asset.

You have a plethora of choices between Silver, Palladium, Platinum for precious metals and Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin for cryptocurrencies.

If you wanted to you could also exchange your Gold & other precious metals for Bitcoin: https://www.smartbitcoininvestments.com ... h-bitcoin/
