Bitminter - Bitcoin minting made easy

Sun Oct 18, 2015 9:09 pm

Bitminter shutdown notice

The Bitminter mining pool will shut down mining activities on 2020-07-01. The website will stay up until 2021-06-01 so you can cash out any crypto currency on your account.

It is unfortunate to have to shut down after 9 years of mining. However, to keep going would not be fair to the few miners we have left in the pool. The efforts of miners who have tried to keep the pool going is greatly appreciated. But the pool has shrunk so much that we might never find another block. Attempts to bring big miners onboard did not work out.

A big thank you to everyone who mined with Bitminter over the years. This has been a grand adventure.

The original purpose of Bitminter was to make mining accessible to those who found other mining software difficult to operate. For many of our users mining in this pool was their first experience with bitcoin. I hope you enjoyed it and that you are still part of the bitcoin community.

Hopefully Bitminter was a useful service for you.

Best of luck for the future.

There's always been many scams preying on Bitcoin users. In particular there is now one with a name similar to Bitminter, but with a .io rather than .com address. Many are getting scammed on that site and then coming over to bitminter.com to ask for help - but these two sites have nothing to do with each other.

In general be careful with "cloud mining"; those are usually scams.

It's also useful to check up on a site's reputation before using it. One tool you can use is web-of-trust (mywot.com) and in particular their web browser plugin. It warns you when you visit scammy sites. In return you can help others by rating and commenting on websites. You can rate Bitminter at https://mywot.com/scorecard/bitminter.com

You can also google the name of the site plus the word "scam". If you have time, check closer on the site's history. Just by googling its name you can usually find people talking about it.

If you have any hints on how to see whether something is a scam, please leave a comment.

You get paid when someone in the pool finds a block. You can see our blocks so far at https://bitminter.com/blocks

You get paid in your Bitminter account. To move coins out of your account you have two options. The first is auto cash out, which you find under "my account" -> "overview" in the website menu. This is free to use, Bitminter pays the transaction fee, but requires 0.01 BTC minimum. The other option is "my account" -> "send coins" which allows sending tiny amounts but has a fee.

Can anybody tell me how to mine Bitcoin?
Here's how you can mine bitcoin at Bitminter:

Your work gets registered in shifts. When someone mining in the pool finds a block you get paid. Your share of the coins from the block depends on your share of the work done in the last 10 completed shifts.

Unfortunately it is pointless to mine bitcoin with just a PC since 2013.

To mine bitcoin now you need to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner (not the old USB-based ones). Mining bitcoin with a PC is now pointless. Even 1 TH/s (1000 GH/s) is now very slow. The fastest miner currently for sale has a hashrate of 16 TH/s (16000 GH/s).

Bitcoin PC mining ended in 2013 when ASICs took over. Mining one bitcoin with just a PC now takes millions of years. At this point even USB-based ASIC miners are useless. Mining today is done with modern stand-alone ASIC miners that don't need a PC at all to mine. You should get at least a 1 TH/s (1000 GH/s) or faster ASIC machine to start a small mining-at-home operation.

You can look for miners at https://halongmining.com and https://eastshore.xyz and https://shop.bitmain.com and https://canaan.io - there are also miners on https://alibaba.com and https://amazon.com, or have a look at used miners on https://ebay.com. Make sure you buy a bitcoin miner, there are also miners for other coins. Don't buy obsolete USB-based miners, today even 1000 GH/s is very slow.

When you buy a miner you can use the prices from the websites above as reference prices. Compare price per GH/s. Remember to add the cost of a power supply if it is not included.

When you get your ASIC machine, connect it to the pool at stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 and as user name put your Bitminter user name, an underscore, then a worker name, e.g. MinerGuy_asic3. Send X, 123, or whatever you want as password - our server won't care.

Bitminter now has version-rolling ASICBoost support on all mining servers.

This means your DragonMint miners, and other future ASICBoost miners, will run full speed on Bitminter.

A big thanks to philipma1957 for helping with testing - it is much appreciated!

I believe we are the fourth pool to add this. It is still not supported by most pools.

Bitminter is one of the oldest pools, well respected and trusted. We pay out transaction fee income, not only the newly minted coins. This can make a big difference in income. ASICboost is supported. Also, by using a non-Chinese pool you help prevent too much hashpower from being concentrated in China.

Give us a try and see how you like it.
