Why does the wallet only display SIX decimal places?

Mon Mar 12, 2018 10:04 pm

Hi guys, great form, glad to be here, I'm experimenting with the app and my first question would be:

why does bitcoin.com wallet only display 6 decimal places?
and is there a way to alter this to always show the full 8... It would be really nice since that what most people are used to

I have also noticed that every time I try to do a BCH microtransaction
the Bitcoin.com app will not let me!

I get an interfering message telling me

"Error at Confirm: Amount below minimum allowed"

can someone kindly explain how to disable this, I assume there is a way.. if there is not then this is just crazy! I thought this was supposed to be peer to peer electronic cash? starting to feel like BTC all over again to be honest..

What is the amount that you are trying to send when you receive the "Error at Confirm: Amount below minimum allowed" notification?

thanks for the reply bitkilo

first I tried the obvious: 1 Satoshi - Won't send : got the error message

then I tried :

2 satoshi - Won't send: error message
10 satoshi - Won't send: error message
20 satoshi - Won't send: error message
50 satoshi - Won't send: error message
100 satoshi - Won't send: error message
500 satoshi - Won't send: error message
1000 satoshi - Won't send: error message
2000 satoshi - Won't send: error message

5000 satoshi - the wallet finally allows me to send

I followed this issue up for you yesterday and was told that, unfortunately we cannot lower the minimum send limit (dust limit amounts), otherwise the transaction will be rejected by the BCH network.

If you were to send such a small BTC transaction (2 satoshi) then it would easily cost much more in tx fees than the amount you are sending.

thanks for following that up bitkilo,
that's really nice of you to do that, and appreciate knowing the response.

I guess it's not a massive issue, I get what you are saying about the fees; I guess my issue would be more that if a user wanted to send 2 satoshi and pay 3000 satoshi (or whatever) for the privilege they should at least be able to do so? that way miners get what they need and users can experiment. The wallet only displaying 6 decimal places also seems restrictive on users to me.

these are relatively small criticisms yes.

but in my opinion, having tested the wallet on iOS desktop/laptop etc these are changes that would take this from a 4/5 to a 4.5/5 or higher user experience

thanks bitkilo

While I think this thread is mis titled I agree. BCH is all about sending micro payments on chain. While this may need to change in the future the ability to send $0.05, multiple times, back and forth while teaching people how to use wallets and how to use bitcoin. There should be NO minimum and fee should be judged on basic size. Other wallets allow for this with warning:fee is greater than send amount. Side note and bch related not wallet:Oh and lets revisit 0 fee or 1 sat per 10bytes again on bch while we are talking microtrabsactions
