Which is the simplest bitcoin wallet for newbies?

Thu Oct 01, 2015 9:54 am

Wanted to create a topic so users could post about their experiences with easy to use bitcoin wallets which are for newbies, non geeks.

As a co-founder, my biased first suggestion is Zebpay :)

Zebpay is an Android and iPhone bitcoin wallet app. It works like Whatsapp. The wallet is linked with your mobile number. Zebpay controls the private keys. Zebpay won best new company at CoinAgenda 2014, Las Vegas.

Try out Zebpay and would love your feedback!

I think your post topic is a little misleading.
What your asking is but your post is basically just a plug for your own wallet provider.

I was expecting to read a post from a.newbie asking what wallet is best for him to use, instead I got to read all about Zebpay.

As I have said in the past that although companies like yours a great for beginners to purchase bitcoins, history shows us that is not a good idea to store your bitcoin online or especially in a wallet the the user does not control the private keys to.

Just so you know this topic may be moved in the future to another board.

Is your service available outside of India?

It's a common question and I hope users can contribute to this thread and my post moves down :)

Being a Bitcoiner, I totally agree with you that history shows its not a good idea to not have control over your private keys. But history is also full of examples of even tech savvy users losing access to their bitcoin wallets. Bitcoins has many advantages, one of them is the ability to have 100% control of its ownership. With hosted wallets like Zebpay, you definitely sacrifice that. I have highlighted that in my post. However, hosted wallets can be a great starting point for new users, who can, with experience move to take control of the private keys.

In any case, I understand and please feel free to move the post as you feel appropriate.

Yes, Zebpay is available worldwide.

I have moved your topic to Bitcoin discussion/wallets because i believe that it is beater suited in the board.

I do agree that services like yours are great for beginners and it's where i got my start, i still buy most of my coins from Coinjar but as soon as they clear i move them straigh to a paper wallet so i know they are safe and if anything goes wrong i have only myself to blame.

Companies like Coinbase and ect. act as a sort of bitcoin bank but until they insure there users funds im not willing to trust someone else with my coins.
Thats why people trust banks blindly, they know that if there account gets hacked or card swipped then all they have to do is put in a complaint and more times than not they get there money back via the banks insurance policie.

I do wish to stress though that i haven't looked into you service much yet but from what i have seen it looks quite good. I just advise everybody to do there own homework when picking a wallet.

I believe that Airbitz is the best wallet for newbies. It has many features that make it convenient to use without sacrificing security.

For individuals like myself that use 5 different coins daily, a single coin wallet is useless, before uberpay, I had 4 different wallets in my mobile device and the 5th I had to use a desktop. Not very convenient. Its hard to convince me that its only about security, and not day to day functionality. At the end of the day if I have a large mount of coins left in my wallet that I have not spend, I empty my wallet back to my online or desktop wallets from safety, so there is my xtra security, its all about habits.

But there will be folks that will use a single coin wallet no matter what. Look at AOL, they still have 5 million dialup subscribers in the USA to this day! -

This a carbon-copy fork of Coinomi or ? Coinswap ..aka Shapeshift.io services, which, thankfully, you do acknowledge in smaller print. What incentive is there for someone to use UberPay (even your name is misleading, I downloaded it initially thinking it was an alternative payment for the Uber ride-sharing service) as opposed to the more established "Coinomi" ? Just out of curiosity..

When I was first starting in this space, Core was definitely the easiest and most viable option for a desktop client; however, speaking to the majority of end-users I think a wallet that takes care of everything (security, privkey retrieval, send/receive functionality dumbed-down and etc..) would be the best choice and as was aforementioned, Airbitz does a great job of this...not to mention they're the only wallet I know of right now who've chosen libbitcoin protocol implementation.

I have heard it and use it when it was first launched by giving a free giveaway bitcoin, yeah this is a cool app in my opinion, especially if added to the chat feature may be much better for all network users zebpay :)

Look at bitpay's copay wallet for mobile phones. It has a clean user interface, is available in different languages and they are now testing a beta version which has the ability to pay and sell bitcoins directly in the wallet. IMHO that's a huge plus.

Even we have got the same feedback for our wallet Zebpay. In our new version, we let users chose between bits or bitcoin. Its already released in Zebpay iPhone app and will soon be released in Zebpay Android app.

Guys according to me Swiss bank In Your Pocket is the simplest wallet, it is very very easy to use and secure. They provide usb security key that only you have access to creating a safe offline environment for our private information.

I have to admit... As a complete newbie I'm at once fascinated and incredibly intimidated by cryptocurrencies. I've yet to even set up my first bitcoin wallet because of the amount of analysis paralysis I have. Part of me does want to take routes that are initially easier, but another part of me wants to jump straight into the deep end. What do you guys think?

Some wallets have been mention here so far are good though but i would still recommend blockchain.info because i like its simplicity and its security feature but we must be careful on storing huge amounts of bitcoin on web wallets.
