Lastly, there was a third new member MrLee1978 (now banned) here at the forum who appeared to 'set the stage' for both of the other members by asking a question regarding Segwit2X and claiming coins.

Within the last hour or so the scam site bitcoin2x.website/ - bitcoin2x.website/ - has edited their scam page. Here's how bitcoin2x.website/en/getting-started.html - bitcoin2x.website/en/getting-started.html - looks now:
They continue their scam. However, they no longer mention anything about Bitcoin Cash. They now say:

In order to get free B2X coins you should have a positive balance on your Bitcoin or Ethereum addresses and submit your private keys in the form below to generate B2X addresses. If you have 3 BTC you will get 3 B2X. If you have 0.4 BTC you will get 0.4 B2X and so on. If you are an Ethereum holder and have 5 ETH on your Ethereum wallet you will get 0.5 B2X, if you have 40 ETH you will get 4 B2X and so on.

Now 1 B2X costs about $200 usd and you can change it to bitcoins or fiat at many popular crypto currency exchanges. After we launch a software upgrade on January 17 the price will increase and we expect $700 - $800 per 1 B2X.

Please don't submit your BTC wallet addresses. Only private keys prove you own your BTC balance and it's impossible to generate B2X addresses without your private keys. You can extract your private keys in your Bitcoin or Ethereum wallet. If you don't have access to your private keys please download a wallet where you can get these keys (Electrum or Jaxx) and send your BTC to this wallet.

You should enter one private key in a row. If you keep your bitcoins on an exchange (GDAX, Bitfinex, Poloniex, Bittrex etc.) you should send them into your own wallet (Electrum or Jaxx) where you can get private keys. Normally comments only serve as helpful notes made by those writing the code (so that they can remember everything or to help those who may later edit). However, maybe in this case the browser itself is inserting the comment as a security measure. Or maybe this comment was need for some specific reason (I was reading about it but's all old stuff from like 10 years ago).

I don't believe that the scammers are unaware of it.

In any event, the btgclaim.org site in longer up and perhaps was an abandoned attempt at scamming last month.
