Is the Australian Craig Wright the real Satoshi?

Tue Dec 08, 2015 10:57 pm

Wired seems to think he probably is.
http://www.wired.com/2015/12/bitcoins-c ... ian-genius
It's definitely intriguing. . although I'm not sure if there are any implications for bitcoin.
However, if he is Satoshi, anything he has done bad or will do bad (or that people don't like) will reflect badly on bitcoin as a whole.

Edit: And I feel bad for him. If someone wants to be private, people should let him and not try to go digging.

Would be fun if Satoshi made another post saying he is not this australian man.

I think wired probably got duped, but that is just what the initial evidence points to.

If he is satoshi then there is no reason why he cannot sign a GPG message from satoshi's GPG key, or to sign a message from an address known to belong to satoshi.

Well, it's a very good hoax if it is one. Yes Satoshi could sign using the PGP key or even sign from an old known Satoshi bitcoin address. But, if it is in fact a hoax, then Wright won't sign anything and the real Satoshi might not be able to, leaving us where we are now.

Why doesn't Wired or Gizmodo publish any DKIM headers for the emails? Maybe they don't have them....

Also, I'd prefer not to know who Satoshi is. I'd rather the legacy live on as an unknown and let his code and foundation he built be the way forward.

lets hope if he really is Satoshi those bitcoins don't make it into unrighteous hands. that could wreak a lot of havoc and do a hell of a lot of good too. I hope some goes into opensource space development personally, we could use a new frontier

i think: NO.

great summary:

1. "Dave Kleinman's background does not indicate anything that would point to being involved with bitcoin in any way. His background comes across as Local to regional IT expert. https://www.youtube.com/user/davekleiman1 https://www.linkedin.com/in/computerforensicsexpert

2. Craig Wrights Linked-in is pretty odd and beyond showing he owns tons of shadow companies, there is nothing in his past that would indicate he had the skills to create bitcoin. He has tons of IT Certifications, that are not related to cryptography field. Also, I am curious if the media can verify his education credentials. Looking at his CV all his courses are at Charles Sturt University, a relative new for profit school, seems like a vocational university. Not to take away but not exactly what one would picture to be Satoshi's background. https://www.linkedin.com/in/craigswright

3. He's discussion at the All Star Panel, was very odd, and not in any way lucid or clear. Here is /u/nullc take on a transcript I made. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/commen ... ed/cxsfy8p

4. user /u/jarederaj points out a book Wright wrote full of grammatical errors, nothing related to cryptocurrency, digital cash https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/commen ... ly/cxsfeon

5. He has listed a US patent for "Registry system" of some kind filed in 2012 and approved in 2014. Very odd. By 2012 He would have been a multimillionaire very odd to file a patent on a registry system that sounds like blockledger document registrations. Patent Description

6. The present invention relates to a registry, and particularly a registry suitable for use as an estate registry, a corporate registry or a document registry. http://patents.justia.com/patent/20140359291

Just clearly more questions that answers

Seems that this Satoshi may have defrauded the Australian Government possibly out of 50 million. Pretty Certain has become highly certain that this is not Satoshi. http://www.businessinsider.com.au/the-a ... es-2015-12

Ok More info. Seems that one of Wrights Companies Hotwire Preemptive Intelligence Pty Limited was in bankruptcy. I think its a little ridiculous that Satoshi would go into bankruptcy on a business, while he is sitting on several hundred million in Bitcoin. Here are the creditor reports and notes. http://www.mcgrathnicol.com/assignments ... y-limited/#

Ok looking at his main company http://www.demorgan.com.au/index.html#board The board is 4 people, himself, his wife, a guy that works on huts and a retiree. Then you look at the main page of their website:

DeMorgan is a pre-IPO Australian listed company focused on alternative currency, next generation banking and reputational and educational products with a focus on security and creating a simple user experience.

About Satoshi's coins, maybe he doesn't need them YET. I wonder how is he going to spend them without people following the trail. He can mix it a thousand times and people will follow every bit.

If those tax officials are linked to the bitcoin news, that's disgusting. I bet they're trying to steal some coins, just like the officer who stole from Ross Ulbritch (silk road case).

If Satoshi is not this Wright guy, would be a good time to send a message saying he is not him.

Yes I think the jury is still out whether he defrauded anyone. Australia seems to think his company did. . . but did it really? And if so, was it intentionally done by him or by someone else in the company? It's way to early to know for sure.

Some very funny answers by Craig Wright over on Quora regarding who Satoshi is.

https://www.quora.com/profile/Craig-S-Wright

He seemed to take umbrage at the fact that both Snowden or Nick Szabo. About Szabo he says in December 2014 (in response to a question):
Linguistic analysis is bloody useless at best, a dead end at worst.

Nick Szabo is not a good developer. There are many people with a rudimentary coding ability, but this is barking up the wrong tree.
And about Snowden he says (also December 2014):
LOL
Really
LOL!!!

Getting worse :)

Snowden was never a cryptopunk!

This seems to put huge holes in this entire story:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comment ... ly/cxsa9hs

Without crypto proof, everything is just here say. Blogs, articles, "clues," etc can all be forged. This is why PGP is so important.

I think the Gizmodo article references satoshi@vistomail.net, not satoshin@vistomail.net.

It definitely could be an elaborate hoax setup by Craig Wright himself.

Regardless, it is rather interesting that he has had such a big bitcoin stash from quite a long time ago and is working on bitcoin. This is not a character I had on my radar.

Yeah, I think this is someone nobody had thought of before. The circumstantial evidence is extremely interesting, he seems to be a very interesting and intelligent person, doing big things like large block scaling tests, running supercomputers, and so on. But to me at the end of the day, without crypto proof I just can't without a shadow of a doubt know that he is Satoshi.

After reading the gizmodo article and interviews I don't see how anyone could say that Dr Wright is satoshi. If it were anyone in the mentioned interviews it was Dave Kleiman. Satoshi does not need to be found, and bitcoin is better off as a myth.

What's most saddening about this entire story to me, is Dr. Craig Wright seems very interesting to me. Intelligent, knows his stuff, great background, and a real thinker (out of the box) when it comes to bitcoin. So, with all that said, why ruin it trying to pretend to be someone you aren't? His merits alone speak for themself. I just don't get it... he ruined his rep when his rep could have been much more if he just presented himself as himself. Maybe he lacked self-confidence in his work, which again is strange given all the accolades he has.

People make silly decisions over ego...

Is there any research available to verify his accreditation? For example, researching if he truly holds such degrees?

IF he is cooking up keys, he will have cooked up other things too...
