Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash (BCC / BCH) are two entirely separate cryptocurrencies and they operate on two entirely separate blockchains. This means that Bitcoin (BTC) sent to an address on the Bitcoin blockchain will never appear nor be present on the Bitcoin Cash blockchain. In this instance you seem to have sent a Bitcoin (BTC) transaction to an address in your Bitcoin Cash (BCC) wallet. Note that in the Bitcoin.com wallet you can set up both a Bitcoin (BTC) sub-wallet and a Bitcoin Cash (BCC) sub-wallet.

Don't panic though! If you sent the BTC to a BCC sub-wallet inside your Bitcoin.com wallet you can do the following to retrieve your BTC from your BCC wallet:

- Go to Home > New wallet (press the '+ icon) > New personal wallet
- Do not select the Bitcoin Cash option, as you want to recover your BTC. (Grey is off and sets up a BTC wallet, green is on and sets up a BCC wallet)
- Enter a name for the wallet (I would suggest BTC recovery) > Show advanced options > Wallet key
- Copy from wallet... > Select Wallet To > [Your Bitcoin Cash Wallet]
- Create new wallet

This will create a Bitcoin (BTC) wallet from your Bitcoin Cash (BCC) wallet seed.

- Once it has been created, go to Settings > [BTC recovery wallet] > More Options > Wallet Addresses > Tap 'Unused Addresses' 20 times until you get an "Empty addresses limit reached" message
- Tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

Your BTC will now appear in your BTC recovery wallet.

Again, you can manage both Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCC) in your Bitcoin.com wallet, but you must not send BTC to a BCC address and vice-versa. You should send BTC only to addresses in your Bitcoin.com BTC sub-wallet, and you should send BCC only to addresses in your Bitcoin.com BCC sub-wallet.

Ah, I seem to have forgotten to mention that you need to import the seed phrase of your BCC wallet into Coinomi in order to retrieve BTC you sent to an address in that wallet, yes. Apologies about that! I'll edit the previous post to reflect this.

I figured it out I now have all my coins, if i would like to transfer bitcoins to bitcoin cash, do i need to use shapeshift? I am new to this, were bitcoin and bitcoin cash on the same blockchain before?

ShapeShift is one of a few services you could use to to transfer bitcoins into bitcoin cash, it is the one i personally use because they have been in business for a long time and i have never had any problems receiving and coins from them.

Excellent, glad to hear you figured it out! As bitkilo mentioned using ShapeShift is probably the easiest way to convert BTC to BCC.

The reason you were able to recover your funds is because you own the private keys to your Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash (these are contained in your seed phrase) when you use our wallet. When using an exchange like Coinbase they own the private keys to your bitcoins (and ultimately this means that they own your Bitcoin and any Bitcoin Cash that was created at the time of the August 1st hard fork).

As only Coinbase has access to your private keys you will need to contact their support team in relation to any queries about getting your funds out of their exchange.

Always remember that unless you control the private keys to your BTC / BCC you don't actually have any ownership of them at all.

Hello, I think I did the same thing, set up a bitcoin cash wallet instead of a bitcoin wallet. I tried to follow the advice given, but I think they've changed the options. There was no grey or green option, You're given the option next to coin of BCH or BTC, and under advanced options it says wallet service url, then wallet key where the options are random or specify recovery phrase, then you can choose to add a passwor, tesnet, or single address wallet. Then you can create new wallet. I've spent SO many hours racking my brain over this, I seriously feel crazy. I thought I was tech savvy, but apparently this is harder than I thought. Any help is very much appreciated!

I have done a stupid mistake as lots of people have done. I have also transferred the funds from BCH wallet address to BTC wallet address.

The funds which i transferred to BTC is not showing on either BTC or BCH.

Following are the details:
I am using Bitcom.com wallet v4.0.3.

I have tried to recover the BCH funds using the following information available on bitcoin.com forums:
1. I have followed the following link to recover the money. But unfortunately didn't work.

@FYI - It doesn't create the wallet and fails at Step 9 "Error creating wallet: Key already associated with an existing wallet"
Just followed the later steps after step 9 without creating a recovery wallet but still no success even after going through step 12 (pressing the "Scan addresses for funds")
Am I missing any other step in between.

I replicated this process on my Android phone by creating a BCH recovery wallet on my phone and using the backup recovery phrase. Actually the wallet was created without giving error in step 9 but the step 12 provided same results; unfortunately no recovery of funds.


2. I have also used the recovery tool mentioned on the forum but same results:

I exported the file in .json
Settings->bitcoin cash ->more options->export wallet
- provided password

If you have sent BCH to a BTC address in your Coinbase wallet then you will need to contact the support team at Coinbase and ask nicely if they will help you recover the BCH.

Because you do not control the private keys on your Coinbase wallet you will not be able to create a "recover wallet" by yourself.
