Fatal Internal Error: I'm a caveman, sorry.

Sun Aug 06, 2017 7:02 am

I've only just considered switching off of Google shit within this last week after Jordan Peterson's GMail removal...so I'm totally new to all the cryptocurrency stuff, I'm trash at file meddling (it took me a year of playing the Minecraft beta before I even considered trying to mod, like...yeah.), and so on.

So now that the background is out of the way and hopefully I've gotten through how completely retarded I am, the problem itself. I just spent a day downloading Bitcoin Core, but as soon as I got to the 90% point, the thing crashed. Fatal Internal Error, followed by a suggestion of opening the debug logs to find out the cause. Sadly, because the menus are obscured by the blockchain update, I can't really navigate said menus for long before it all closes. I have the log opened now however, took a few resets to find it since it crashes again within a minute or so.

I believe this is what you guys are looking for when you ask for the logs' info, but given I'm a worse coder than Karkat Vantas, please let me know what I should give you, if not this.

Hello DisgruntledAnon, Corruption: block checksum mismatch refers to error in block data that occur during writing, reading, storage, this is a hardware failure.. Be sure that your hard disk is not full, Try to use the -reindex options if the problem doesn't solved, try to re-download the blockchain.

Thank you very much for responding. I feared when my post was moved to the development and technical discussion instead of tech support, I'd never get a response.

I'm looking through the wallet with the little time that I have between crashes in order to find the -reindex option. Where is this options page, whether I access through the program files or the GUI?

And it couldn't be my disc. I have a 500GB SSD which had over 300GB open for this to fit in...

I've found the console and command menu, but I cannot simply -reindex because it says "Method Not Found." I'm guessing that I need to fiddle with the blk*.dat files that it mentions in the command-line options?

Hey look, I made myself look like even more of a caveman...go figure....

So this whole time I assumed that the download directory I chose (a folder of files for apps I run upon starting or when doing common tasks), where the app's qt and some other files are stored, was the full extent of files being downloaded. I did not even know the AppData folder had more of the app's information... :?

Oh well, at least I've gone over that hurdle and can now actually get started at potentially fixing the problem. I've deleted all the files with "blk" in them, and have run the wallet again. I wasn't sure about the index folder or rev files, so I left them be. It seems to be downloading as normal again. Syncing headers, it says, so I'm not sure how much will need to be reinstalled. But I'll go out on a limb and assume I'll have to wait 12-24 hours again?

Bitcoin Core is a full client that requires complete blockchain to be downloaded locally on your machine, so you have to wait 12-24-36 + hours, so if you want to setup your wallet in less then 1 minute use a bitcoin.com wallet wich is available for windows, linux, ios, android, osx, https://www.bitcoin.com/choose-your-wal ... com-wallet here is a guide how to use the bitcoin.com wallet https://www.bitcoin.com/guides/how-use- ... com-wallet
note a bitcoin.com wallet no requires complete blockchain to be downloaded locally on your machine
