Best email PGP Client?

Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:29 am

I use https://gpgtools.org/ for Mac Mail.
They accept Bitcoin, and it works great!

What do you use, and why?

If you aren't using PGP already, why not?

If Bitpay had been using PGP to sign all of their emails, they wouldn't have lost $1.8M worth of Bitcoins to that hacking.

Here is a great tutorial on how to use PGP with Thunderbird and Enigmail made by one of our own Bitcoin community members:

PGP capable of exchanging files and messages ensuring the privacy and identity combined with ease of operation.
In simple words, the PGP can encrypt and decrypt anything from files and whole disk partitions messages from to email.

According to expert in safety Nico Sell, founder of security application Wickr, "when talking about [encryption] email, PGP, is the best there is."

Regarding Bitpay hacking sure if used it would have no problem but from our mistakes we are good to learn not to do it again the same..

On Windows 7, http://www.claws-mail.org/screenshots.p ... on=general is not bad.

I don't have a single correspondent who uses PGP, so I don't get to use it myself. It's a chicken and egg problem.
If I know the other guy uses PGP, I might sign, if not encrypt, my emails.

If you are involved with Bitcoin, I think you will be surprised how many of your Bitcoin friends are already using PGP.
I would even guess that the majority of people registered on this board already do.

You can search for your contacts PGP keys on https://PGP.MIT.EDU via their existing email addresses.

For example, here is mine.

When on Linux Mint if youre not using KDE edition with Kleopatra GUI its very hard to understand how to use PGP encryption for a beginner. Other distros simply dont have any GUI so you can only use console, thus 95% of new users are scared for sure.

It took for me about 5 days to learn to use PGP on a good level on Linux. When I switched from KDE to MATE my quest was "extended" but it is still a very rare and beautiful experience. Now I know how some secrets of using PGP on any system, so its fine for me and I think everyone must learn. NSA is not sleeping :) And noone will care of our privacy, only we must do so.

I also use gpgtools. 8-) Agreed everyone involved in crypto-currencies should use end-to-end encrypted communications when dealing with trusted parties.

Thank you for your support.

I use K-9 Mail with APG on Android. K-9 also has a handy privacy setting that scrubs unnecessary info from headers.

Does anyone use or know of any iOS mobile apps that let you write (send) and read (receive) PGP encrypted emails to your mobile device in a user friendly way? I recently started using privacy pgp messenger which lets you send encrypted messages in an easy way by searching public PGP keys by email which seems to work well for me. However, I don't see a way to receive and read encrypted email on my mobile device using this app. So it's only good for sending....

Does anyone have an app that does both?

This app seems to allow both:
https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/opengp/id414003727?mt=8

I don't like to keep my private keys on my mobile device though.

Is there a good free PGP program out for that I can use with Windows 7 ?
I just got this laptop and will upgrade the OS soon just want to find the best option 1st and if I can teach myself PGP before purchasing the one you mentioned in your OP then I might as well.

PGP is something I have just not had the time to learn but I know I will need it in the very near future.
I still have a few signed PGP messages in the ID verification thread I need to finish.

PS, do you know if the amins are working on adding a PGP public key spot on user profiles?

Yeah, I saw that one but it's $5 and the reviews are mixed, some with bad privacy reviews and I don't want to pay $5 to test something that might not work out. I use iOS and the new iOS9 is very security conscious which I've been really happy about. Apple refuses to decrypt data for the US government, which they are trying to force them to do: https://boingboing.net/2015/10/23/doj-t ... re-is.html

I was reading about iPGMail which is another iOS app that implements OpenPGP too, for $2 which seems to have some better reviews but they aren't as recent as the other. https://apple.stackexchange.com/questio ... -an-iphone

I don't know, I guess I gotta keep searching!

Maybe we should start a social media campaign of some sort to ask Apple to integrate PGP support right into their default mail clients for iphone and OSX.

That would be great! Did you know that iOS already supports S/MIME certificates?

Has anyone heard of tutanota.com? If both parties are using an email address provided by tutanota.com then emails are automatically encrypted. If not, then I think there's an option for PGP. I wish more people used it, because I've never corresponded with anyone using PGP with email. It's above most people's heads and trying to convince and explain to them how to do it is a PITA.
