Hi defcon23,

Great idea to start your own AMA, there is now a few members here from the physical bitcoin collectors crowd that would probably have a few questions for you.

A couple from me are,

1) When did you first get involved in collecting physical bitcoins and what was the first coin you purchased?

2) What coin in your collection would you consider the most important to you and why?

3) What is your "dream coin" to one day own?

Dear bitkilo,

- in fact, I start collecting bitcoins physical relatively late .. around 2 years ago..
My first physical bitcoin was a Lealana 2013, 0.1 bitcoin serie 2, brass, and I bought it in the end of 2014

- my most important coin,to my eyes, is a microsoul 2013 0.01 btc, loaded, as it was offered to me by my wife .. :) ( so: not the most bitcoin valuable , as it is most important for me on a sentimental point of view.. )

- and finaly, about the coin i really would love have to got one day , it's a coin made by ognasty : the famous 2oz .999 Gold NastyFans Minted Seats ;) ( indeed ... )

also, to complement my answer on this last question, i would like to add: " the coin of my dreams i havent already made yet" ;)

Cheers !

What made you decide to get into making physical coins?
hello grngrtr ,

first thank you for asking .. :)
in fact, it's pretty easy: being already a passionated pĥysical coins collector, i have decided to put some designs i had in head on a serie of physical currencys , and I'd decided to get into the adventure.
because it was a real success, I have decided to continue on this path, and then have maked two another series..
today I have another project planned for 2017 with a new coin serie , with a completely different theme/design ( as my 3 first series was Aztec/maya gods coins related ) but i mostly would like to share my experience and launching a service that would allow others to realize their own coins , with their own designs, and helping them on each steps of the process. (from design to production)

best regards

Deffy

Thanks for the answer, that is really interesting. I'm especially interested in the service that you are thinking about launching that would help others make their own physical coins. I think it would be cool to have a physical "grnqrtr" (green quarter), something like my profile avatar.

There are already some great services available for this!!
One user of note (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?actio ... le;u=65317)
has already produced coins for many crypto enthusiasts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1313324

He has even written a book on it and it is available in digital format as well

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize other people were already doing this. That user looks like he has made some neat coins as well.

@defcon23 - I'm still interested in what your upcoming service costs and what it comes with as well!

sure ! .. anyway the fact theres already 1 ( or 2 or even 10 services like these ) will dont change the fact we are in a free market , and concurence is always a sign of big interest and a sign of market vitality .. :) it's called "concurence.. " :)
@grnqrtr : sure sir ! we' ll stay in touch . dont hesitate to PM me for more informations, you will be always welcome .

@ mjglqw , to answer your question, i first would say ,:

1: having a good knowledge in all differents existing OS , and a good knowledge in networking too..

2: ( and you propably will find that boring .. ) learning at least a bit of few basics programing languages ( phython, javascript , pearl, ruby, c, php , html..... hum.. : not the most easy part in fact , as it will take you a good amount of time.. :)

3: install a pentesting OS on a dedicaced machine ( Kalli Linux on it's last version : kali 2 rolling )

- install a vitual ienvironement , like vitrualbox , vmware, etc..
- start to work on network Analysis
- start to work on malware analysis ( on a sandbox environment or on another dedicaced machine .. ;) )

try to stay much possible organised , and spend much time possible on training ( there's many place all other internet for training/certifications: i will put you few links in this post..)

- finaly , i would like to add youtube got thousand of good tutorials to help you too.. they are often good sources ... make your own classified database ..

and dont fall to the dark side of the force .... ;)

Best regards

Deffy

How profitable it is to make your own physical bitcoins?
Do you consider it a hobby or you make enough money to live off of this?

Would you recommend this to others considering the amount of effort it takes?

dear coin@coin, thanks for asking!
-if I consider the time to invest in all processes (design, time to spend in communication, thread announcements, gestion, packaging, deplacements to post offices, etc. etc...), and if I consider the mint cost for the minting process + shipping, holograms, COA's, embossed gold foils, COA, Holograms, in my case, and cause it was each time only little series (never more than 100 coins), I can say I have never lost money, I had even won few bitcoins, but I can't say I can live off this.
to be clear, in my case: it's more than a hobby, but it's absolutely not enough to live about it ;) to be more interesting I should choose to make bigger series (not less than 500 coins for each run and probably think to sell them at a higher price.. ) but it was not my goal :)

best regards

thank you for your question rogever , it's a short question for a long answer.. ;)

I have always been a strong opponent to monitoring computer communications, and from several years ...
pro-Edward Snowden, faithful to Wikileaks, defender of the cause of Julian Assange, and support of Ross Ulbricht (by the way , his family has again recently received new blackmails of the authorities that are particularly unacceptable ...)
I'm a user of free and anonymous networks (Tor, I2P, FreeNet) since their establishment,
I consider the development and the use of cryptography are the best defenses against internet censorship problems ...
Cryptography allows freedom of expression, cryptocurrencies, and models of alternative economies, make possible the exchange of goods and services outside the "legal framework" .

Privacy is probably the most difficult thing to secure .. to live happily, let's live hidden & encrypted :)
That's why I support initiatives like Paralelnipolis congress , darknet services providers like Arnarplex , support Amir Taaki projects ( Darkwallet) and so much more...(Tor, I2P, FreeNet) since their establishment,

to answer to second part of your question , i would like to say: "so many things" here's just few of them : the Aaron Hillel Swartz suicide , the imprisonment of Jeremy Hammond , Paul Rosenberg (Founder of Cryptohippie and author of the Freeman’s Perspective), Pavol Luptak (CEO of Nethemba ) Timothy C.May ( Author of The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto ) Jamie Bartlet ( author of "darknet" and by the way same person you have recently seen in this great video on another topic on this forum : post33931.html#p828

sure rogerver : as you by the way perfectly know it, nothing new in this kind of way to process from the start of this story ... as you have already cited one of these threats against Ross family : (darknet-markets/new-accusations-of-a-go ... -t447.html )

I have recently read ( & I have to search from wich exact source , as I haven't kept it in mind ... maybe freedom phoenix , or on a Telegram chat : to verify .. ) about Lyn & Cally Ulbricht have recently suffered new menaces against them.. what is clearly acharnement against Ross family.

by the way i wana profit of this post to thank you again Pavol Luptak for his recent suport to Ross Ulbricht on Telegram #HCCP16 chanel ( paralelni polis )
from Pavol Luptak:

"Dear HCPP16 visitors,

Show your respect to Ross Ulbricht, the most influential crypto-anarchist and the victim of the government’s inhumane persecution of free-minded people.

Make him happy and send your favorite crypto-anarchist postcard to his jail (for a special price of 30 CZK in bitcoins):

Wanna you talk about RScoin ? : cryptocurrency for central banks ...

the phenomenon is so well explained in the following article :
"following the old adage “if you can’t beat them, join them”, the Bank of England (BoE), People’s Bank of China (PBOC) and Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) are among a number of the world’s central banks to have expressed interest in blockchain technology and the potential of digital currencies."

another interesting one ( even oldest ) :

I only have one question regarding the coins you have released in the past (ometeotl and quetzal).

How did you come up with the design and from where did you get your inspiration for the design?

I haven't "created" this design ... it's a very old Maya/Aztec existing symbol representing one of their gods...
just scroll google...
"Ometeotl (Nahuatl name composed of ome, "two", and teotl, "energy" , Omeyotl refers, in Aztec mythology, to the duality principle which governs the Omeyocan; it is a kind of supreme entity , unique, immaterial, transcendent, unique creator of all things, reaching perfection, which is divided into two divinities ..."

same for Quetzalcoatl series :
the Aztec name of a pre-Columbian deity .
In the Nahuatl language, the name is a set of sacred words quetzal meaning "bird", "flying" or "precious" and Coatl, "snake" or "twin". Thus Quetzalcoatl could mean "bird-serpent", "precious serpent", "precious twin" or "twin wheel".

Hi,

I know this probably seems like it's coming out of left field since we have no history with each other but it's something I've been wondering since reading some of the feedback you've left on the other site a while back.

Do you know why OgNasty has treated me as if I were the biggest scum bag piece of trash the world has ever seen?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, but want to know I posted our entire convo here to defend myself after the first wave of false accusations were made.

I know that at first he thought I was someone else, but I think he must of realized by now that I'm not - and since then he's told a lot of other lies about me that I can totally prove are not true, but he just ignores me. Pretty frustrating since I know a lot of people trust him and will just assume what he says to be true no matter what I say.

Anyway, not trying to be confrontational with you or distract from the coin minting questions (which I also think are interesting), only asking because I noticed you making similar accusations against the same person that he thought was me, plus - you seem to be a friend of OgN that is open to be asked anything.

I won't continue to bring the issue up in this thread. But i hope defcon does respond, and I'd appreciate it if anyone that has a good relationship with OgN would look into this and mediate the issue somehow. I've been as transparent as possible throughout and not sure what else to do - certainly not going to just forget about it though,

But i hope defcon does respond, and I'd appreciate it if anyone that has a good relationship with OgN would look into this and mediate the issue somehow. I've been as transparent as possible throughout and not sure what else to do - certainly not going to just forget about it though,
Thanks for agreeing to respect our forum rules here, we actually like to say that we have no rules here just guidelines that we expect our members to follow, basically treat other how you want to be treated.

I am not accusing you of trolling here yet and your 1st post in this thread was warranted and on topic because this is defcon's AMA thread, nobody can complain that someone has asked them a question they don't like if it's in their own AMA thread, that's going to happen, the best they can do is choose to ignore the post and that is just what it looks like defcon is doing in this case.

Regarding the matter you have raised, i have seen this unfolding on bitcointalk but as it does not involved myself or this forum i think the matter should really be left where it started, some members have come to this forum to get away from all the fighting over there so let's give everybody a fresh start here.
I would rather you not bring any disagreements from bct to here but i cannot stop you so you are free to create your own thread on another board regarding this topic but please do not post in this thread anymore about this matter as it seems quite clear to me that defcon does not wish to discuss the topic

If defcon wants these now off topic posts moved then i will do that but your 1st post will stay. Thank you for understanding.

Regards: bitkilo.

I am not too sure if defcon is into mining or not so it would probably be best to ask your question on the mining-support/ board, you will hopefully get a quicker answer there.

You could always just ask slush directly in his AMA thread, he hasn't been online for awhile but if he get a few questions in his thread to answer i'm sure he will pop up to answer them.
